Job summary

The City of Charleston's Fire Department seeks an experienced technician to maintain and repair fire department assets, including heavy-duty apparatus, vehicles, and specialized equipment. You will diagnose issues, perform repairs, and ensure safety and compliance.

Responsibilities cover preventive maintenance, upfitting, welding, and documentation. Qualifications include an AA/AS or trade certification and four years of related experience, plus a valid driver's license and CDL eligibility.

Qualifications

• AA/AS degree or trade certificate with 4 years of related experience.
• Valid driver's license; CDL Class A or B eligibility within 1 year.
• Ability to pass EVT and ASE certification tests per year during progression.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair fire department assets including heavy/duty vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs, adjustments and services.
• Repair powertrains, hydraulics, electrical systems and related components.
• Perform routine maintenance, upfitting and fabrication as needed.
• Complete documentation for parts, repairs and costs.
