Job summary

EMCOR Group is seeking a Fire Alarm Service and Inspections Technician to service and inspect fire alarm systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The role requires reading project docs, performing testing, and coordinating with customers on-site.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or technical degree, with NICET preferred. Some positions may involve weekends and extended hours on-site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED; 2-4 year degree in a technical field from accredited college or university
  • NICET Certification preferred
  • Experience installing/servicing low voltage systems and Fire/Life Safety systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm, suppression and releasing systems and related devices
  • Read and interpret project documentation and work orders to determine inspection requirements
  • Manage daily call activity and program system products including networking
  • Carry testing tools such as a multi-meter and related equipment for on-site work
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and operation manuals to support inspection and maintenance
  • Prepare required paperwork for customer service activities
  • Work extended hours and weekends as needed

We are a nationally recognized fire protection company that engineers, fabricates, and installs fire sprinkler systems and alarms for structures including commercial buildings, government buildings, healthcare facilities, high-rise condominiums, and mixed-use projects.

Job Summary

Northstar is looking for a Fire Alarm Service and Inspections Technician. In this position you will be responsible for servicing and inspecting fire alarm systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm, suppression and releasing systems as well as associated devices in accordance with industry standards.
  • Responsible for reading and understanding assigned project documentation and work orders including scope of work for inspections and determine if additional information is needed.
  • Manage daily call activity and program system products, including networking and programming.
  • Report to assignment with required testing tools including suitable multi-meter, hand tools, printer, etc
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operation/product manuals consistent with the level of training received.
  • Prepare associated paperwork/forms for customer service activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED; 2-4 year degree in a technical field from accredited college or university
  • NICET Certification preferred
  • Installation of low voltage systems, Fire/Life Safety Systems, Access Control Systems, Nurse Call Systems, Paging Systems, School Clock Systems, HVAC controls, elevator controllers, and Telephone Systems experience preferred
  • Fundamental knowledge of test equipment including multi-meters, digital analyzers, frequency meters, decibel meters, and communicating devices.
  • Knowledge of the hazards associated with inadvertent system discharge for the purpose of inspection, testing and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Ohm's law, resistance and AC/DC circuits
  • Programming experience is preferred
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, IOS and database (software) programs
  • Must have the ability to lift/move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working in ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
