Job summary

MJW is seeking a Fire Alarm Technician in Lakeland, FL to install, program, repair, and replace fire alarm equipment. You will inspect systems, read blueprints, coordinate with foremen, and maintain tools and vehicles. Travel and a background check are required.

The role includes responding to emergencies, working with multiple manufacturers, and ensuring code compliance. A valid driver’s license is required, with opportunities within a long-standing industrial firm.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; 1–5 years related experience or training.
• NICET Certification or ESA/NTS Alarm Technician Level 1 or higher preferred.
• Must have a current driver’s license and be able to travel; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings for proper installation.
• Coordinate with Project Manager or Foreman to complete projects and orders efficiently.
• Diagnose fire alarm related problems across multiple systems and identify repairs.
• Communicate status and procedures with project staff for informed decisions.
• Inspect and evaluate fire alarm systems, identify repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance.
• Install fire alarm components (panels, alarms, pull stations, detectors).
• Maintain vehicle, tools, and test equipment to ensure readiness.
• Respond to emergencies during and after hours.

Summary

The Fire Alarm Technician provides electrical services with specific responsibility for fire alarm installing, programming, repairing , and replacing related equipment; maintaining a regular inspection schedule; documenting activities; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm and/or other related electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.

• Coordinate with assigned Project Manager, General Contactor Superintendent or Foreman to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
• Diagnose cause of fire alarm related problems or failures with multiple manufactured systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
• Communicates with Project Manager, General Contactor Superintendent or Foreman personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with appropriate codes & regulations.
• Inspect and evaluate fire alarm systems and their components, identify necessary repairs and recommend preventive maintenance.
• Install fire alarm system components as assigned (e.g. panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.).
• Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, supplies and test equipment to ensure availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
• Respond to emergency situations during and after hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages 0-5 Technicians and Helpers. Is responsible for the overall direction and coordination. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
• ESA/NTS Certified Alarm Technician Level 1 or higher

Other Qualifications

• Must have a current driver’s license and a driving record that meets company minimum requirements
• Must be able to travel
• Must pass background check
