Job summary

Gene Ptacek & Son Fire Equipment is hiring a Fire Alarm Systems Technician to service and inspect commercial fire alarm and life safety systems in Northeast Ohio. You will diagnose issues, program systems, and prepare accurate service and deficiency reports for customers.

The role requires reading schematics, strong troubleshooting, and exemplary customer service. A valid driver’s license, ability to pass background checks, and commuting within reasonable distance of Brooklyn, OH are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Experience servicing, inspecting, or troubleshooting fire alarm, life safety, or low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documents.
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Brooklyn, OH.
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Service, inspect, and maintain fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment, ensuring all systems operate efficiently, meet applicable code requirements, and provide reliable protection for customers.
• Diagnose and repair system issues, including fire alarm control panels, detectors, notification devices, and wiring.
• Perform system programming, configuration, and software updates as required.
• Complete inspection reports, service documentation, and deficiency reports accurately and on time.
• Document deficiencies, repairs, and recommendations, and communicate findings with customers.
• Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, state, and local fire codes.
• Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and internal team members.
• Maintain company tools, equipment, and service vehicle.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Push or pull more than 75 lbs.
• Safely climb ladders up to 12 feet and operate a man lift.
• Drive to customer job sites throughout Northeast Ohio.
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Safely use hand and power tools.
