Job summary

Innovative Consulting & Management Services (ICMS) is seeking a Fire Alarm System Mechanic for an onsite contract in Beltsville, Maryland. The role covers installation, inspection, testing, programming, and maintenance of commercial/industrial fire alarm systems.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of low voltage wiring experience, NFPA 72 knowledge, and ability to work with Notifier/Silent Knight panels. OSHA training and Maryland licensing are required; USDA background clearance to be obtained.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED is standard; preference for technical program grads.
  • 3+ years’ direct experience with low voltage wiring in fire protection platforms.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and Maryland State Fire Prevention Code.
  • Must use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.

Responsibilities

  • System Installation & Upgrades: Mounts and wires control panels, sensors, smoke detectors, pull stations, horns, and strobes according to blueprints and schematics.
  • Programming & Commissioning: Configures and programs system software for complex fire alarm panels to communicate with monitoring stations and emergency systems.
  • Inspection & Testing: Performs routine, mandatory system testing per NFPA 72 standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnoses faults and completes repairs for continuous system readiness.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Completes digital inspection reports and deficiency forms for inspectors and insurers.
  • Analytical skills to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

ICMS is looking for Fire Alarm System Mechanics to join our team onsite for a contract in Beltsville, Maryland. Successful candidates are experienced in the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of fire alarm systems and components with experience in commercial and industrial settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • System Installation & Upgrades: Mounts and wires control panels, sensors, smoke detectors, pull stations, horns, and strobes according to blueprints and engineering schematics.
  • Programming & Commissioning: Configures and programs system software for complex fire alarm panels (e.g., Notifier, Silent Knight) to communicate seamlessly with monitoring stations and emergency systems.
  • Inspection & Testing: Performs routine, mandatory system testing in strict accordance with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnoses ground faults, open circuits, malfunctions, and panel beeps, completing repairs to ensure continuous system readiness.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Completes detailed, digital fire alarm inspection reports and code deficiency forms required by fire inspectors and insurance providers.
  • Possess analytical skills necessary to recognize, diagnose, and, within limits, repair equipment and system malfunctions.
  • Understand verbal and written instructions and to give readily understood information in both verbal and written forms.
Required Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma or GED is standard. Preference is highly weighted toward graduates of vocational/technical programs, military electronics training or associated degrees.
  • 3+ years’ direct experience working with low voltage wiring in fire protection platforms.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures and the confidence to suggest additional safety procedures.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with NFPA codes, specifically NFPA 72 and the Maryland State Fire Prevention Code.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
  • Must be able at times to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination/ fit for duty assessment.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • A valid state’s driver's license (with no major infractions) is required.
  • OSHA 10/30 Training.
  • NICET Level I or II certification in Fire Alarm Systems or Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Applicable industry training (NEC, HFPA 70E, JCI/ Simplex).
Security Clearance:

All contractor personnel must attain and maintain a USDA LincPass and pass a background check; personnel must be U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents.

Work schedules are subject to change based on client and company needs. As a management position, this person will be on call regularly and be available for and respond to emergencies off shift.

Hourly Pay: $31.36 per hour
