Job summary

Mission Critical Solutions (MCS) in Tampa, FL, is seeking a Fire Alarm Service Technician to service, troubleshoot, test, inspect, and maintain fire alarm and life safety systems in occupied facilities.

You will work in the field, communicating with customers and authorities having jurisdiction to ensure system reliability and code compliance. This full-time role requires strong technical knowledge and the ability to work independently on site.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• FASA/BASA certification required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Florida JLA badge required.
• NICET certification preferred.
• FCC GROL certification preferred.
• Manufacturer certifications preferred (Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, Notifier, FCI-Gamewell, Simplex, Siemens, EST).
• Other life safety certifications preferred.
• Minimum of five years fire alarm service experience.
• Proficiency with NFPA 72, Life Safety Code 101, and IBC.
• Experience servicing systems from major manufacturers is highly desired.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and service fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Perform annual, semi-annual, and quarterly tests and inspections per NFPA 72 and AHJ requirements.
• Interpret system drawings, submittals, specs, schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
• Identify system deficiencies, document findings, and provide clear service reports and corrective action recommendations.
• Program, reprogram, and modify existing fire alarm systems to support service work and code compliance.
• Respond to service calls involving fire alarm systems and related low-voltage systems.
• Support monitoring account setup, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate service activities with customers, facility representatives, AHJs, and internal project teams.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MCS of Tampa is seeking a Fire Alarm Service Technician in Tampa, Florida. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. The Fire Alarm Service Technician is responsible for the service, troubleshooting, testing, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarm and life safety systems in occupied facilities. This service-focused role requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to work independently in the field, and effective communication with customers, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and internal teams to ensure system reliability, code compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and service fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Perform annual, semi-annual, and quarterly test and inspections in accordance with NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements.
• Interpret system drawings, as-built documentation, submittals, specifications, schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
• Identify system deficiencies, document findings, and provide clear service reports and corrective action recommendations.
• Program, reprogram, and modify existing fire alarm systems to support service work and code compliance.
• Respond to service calls involving fire alarm systems and related low-voltage systems including ERCES/BDA, card access, CCTV, intrusion, and nurse call systems.
• Support monitoring account setup, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate service activities with customers, facility representatives, AHJs, and internal project teams.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Certification Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• FASA/BASA certification required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Florida State Jessica Lunsford Act (JLA) badge required.
• NICET certification preferred.
• FCC GROL certification preferred.
• Manufacturer certifications preferred, including but not limited to Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, Notifier, FCI-Gamewell, Simplex, Siemens, and EST.
• Other life safety or systems-related certifications preferred.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of five years of fire alarm service experience, including troubleshooting, programming, and modification of existing systems.
• Proficiency with NFPA 72, Life Safety Code 101, and the International Building Code.
• Experience servicing systems manufactured by Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, Notifier, FCI-Gamewell, Simplex, Siemens, EST, or similar platforms is highly desired.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined spaces as required.

Fundamental Functions

Work Environment

• Work assignments may vary based on client requirements.

Schedule

• Regular attendance following an established work schedule is mandatory.

• This position may require night and weekend work and could include travel to areas with varying field conditions.

Physical Requirements

• May require climbing ladders, working at heights and in small, confined spaces such as under raised floors, inside closets, and server racks.
• Must possess the capability to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended durations. Will be required to operate in noisy environments with temperatures higher or lower than standard office conditions. Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC/laptop. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.

Equipment and Machines

• General office equipment includes but is not limited to PCs/laptops, telephones, copiers, servers, switches, routers, and other computer equipment that supports the network environment.
• General field equipment includes but is not limited to hand tools, power tools, ladders, aerial/motorized lifts, and test equipment.
• This position may require the operation of motor vehicles as an essential job function. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. The ability to operate company vehicles safely and responsibly is crucial. Employees may be subject to periodic motor vehicle record checks, and any discrepancies may impact eligibility for the position. Travel

• Travel requirements will vary. Not all positions require travel.
• A current passport is required for Overseas travel.
