Job summary

Atlantic Constructors, Inc. seeks a Fire Alarm Service Technician in Newport News, VA to install, troubleshoot, repair, inspect and test fire alarm systems.

You will work with limited supervision, read drawings, and coordinate with our Construction Fire Alarm Division on large networked systems. The role emphasizes documentation and adherence to company procedures.

Preferred candidates may have HS diploma or GED, and prior military experience is a plus; compensation will reflect experience.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of industry standards for fire alarm installation.
• Experience with multiple fire alarm system manufacturers.
• Strong troubleshooting skills using manuals and online resources.
• Ability to read drawings, specs and wiring schematics.

Responsibilities

• Installation, troubleshooting and repair of fire alarm systems with limited supervision.
• Assist Construction Fire Alarm Division in troubleshooting, inspecting and testing large networked fire alarm/mass notification systems.
• Perform fire alarm, sprinkler, and extinguisher inspections.
• Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements.
• Assist in training and directing the day to day work of a helper.
• Maintain appropriate documentation for the work performed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary/Objective

Responsible for installation, troubleshooting, repair, inspection and testing fire alarm systems

Essential Functions

• Installation, troubleshooting and repair of complex networked and non-networked fire alarm systems with limited or no supervision
• Assisting our Construction Fire Alarm Division in troubleshooting, inspecting and testing large scale networked fire alarm/mass notification systems for extended periods of time
• Perform fire alarm, sprinkler, and extinguisher inspections
• Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements
• Assist in training and directing the day to day work of a helper
• As a fire alarm service technician, must Maintain appropriate documentation for the work performed
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Knowledge of industry standards for fire alarm systems installation
• Experience with a variety of system manufacturers
• Troubleshooting skills including, researching on line, system manuals to resolve problems
• Experience with conduit bending, understanding of blue prints and wiring schematics and layout of system installations
• Exceptional communication skills with customers, other field personnel, office staff and sub-contractors
• Must be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, work assignments, and other interruptions that may impact pre-established courses of action for completing or progressing with projects and assignments
• Must adhere to all company policy and procedures

Work Environment

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:

• May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold and dampness
• May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
• May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
• May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights

Physical Demands

• This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools.
• While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
• Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
• Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Travel

• May require travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred

• Prior military experience
