Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. seeks an experienced Fire Alarm/Electrical Construction Inspector to support fire alarm system installations within an active, occupied facility. You will lead QA, ensure safety, and coordinate contractors, facility staff, and project managers.

This on-site role requires deep knowledge of life safety codes, NFPA standards, and construction practices to minimize disruption to ongoing operations while ensuring compliance with contract requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 10 years of construction inspection experience, including significant experience with fire alarm systems and life safety projects.
• Demonstrated experience inspecting projects within occupied or operational facilities.
• Strong knowledge of fire alarm system components, installation practices, and acceptance testing procedures.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, riser diagrams, sequence of operations, and technical submittals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic project management/documentation systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspection of fire alarm installation, replacement, expansion, and modernization activities.
• Verify contractor compliance with project plans, technical specifications, approved shop drawings, and contract requirements.
• Inspect installation of fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, communication pathways, power supplies, and associated infrastructure.
• Monitor workmanship and installation methods to ensure compliance with industry standards and manufacturer recommendations.
• Identify, document, and track deficiencies requiring corrective action.
• Verify compliance with applicable building codes, fire codes, life safety requirements, and AHJ regulations.
• Review system installations for NFPA standards and project-specific requirements.
• Monitor impairment procedures, temporary protection measures, and fire watch activities when required.
• Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of life safety systems throughout construction activities.
• Operate Facility Coordination and coordinate daily activities within an occupied environment.
• Review planned outage requests and ensure proper stakeholder notification procedures are followed.
• Monitor contractor adherence to access restrictions, permit requirements, and operational constraints.
• Witness and document functional testing, acceptance testing, integrated system testing, and commissioning activities.
• Verify proper operation of devices, circuits, communication networks, monitoring systems, and supervisory functions.
• Review contractor testing reports, inspection forms, and closeout documentation.
• Ensure deficiencies identified during testing are corrected and retested before acceptance.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting work activities, contractor progress, observations, and issues.

Your impact

Jacobs is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm/Electrical Construction Inspector to support fire alarm system installation, modification, testing, and commissioning activities within an active, occupied facility. This position requires a seasoned inspection professional with extensive knowledge of fire alarm systems, life safety codes, and construction practices in operational environments where ongoing facility operations must be maintained with minimal disruption.

The successful candidate will serve as Jacobs' on-site representative, providing quality assurance, compliance verification, and coordination between contractors, facility staff, project managers, and stakeholders. The Inspector will ensure all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, applicable codes, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspection of fire alarm installation, replacement, expansion, and modernization activities.
• Verify contractor compliance with project plans, technical specifications, approved shop drawings, and contract requirements.
• Inspect installation of fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, communication pathways, power supplies, and associated infrastructure.
• Monitor workmanship and installation methods to ensure compliance with industry standards and manufacturer recommendations.
• Identify, document, and track deficiencies requiring corrective action.
• Verify compliance with applicable building codes, fire codes, life safety requirements, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) regulations.

• Work closely with facility management, operations personnel, security staff, and contractors to minimize impacts to occupants and mission-critical operations.

• Verify implementation of lockout/tagout procedures, permit systems, and hot work requirements where applicable.
• Identify potential safety concerns and communicate corrective actions.
• Promote Jacobs' commitment to a culture of safety and operational excellence.
• Serve as the primary field liaison between Jacobs, contractors, facility representatives, and project management teams.
• Attend progress meetings, coordination meetings, testing activities, and project status reviews.
• Provide timely updates regarding schedule impacts, quality concerns, and operational risks.
• Escalate critical issues affecting life safety systems, facility operations, or project milestones.

Preferred Qualifications

• NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level II, III, or IV preferred).
• Fire Inspector or Fire Protection-related certifications.
• Experience with addressable fire alarm systems from major manufacturers such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Notifier, Edwards, or Simplex.
• Experience supporting commissioning activities and integrated systems testing.
• Prior experience within federal or critical infrastructure facilities.

The base salary range for this position is $90,000.00 to $120,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
