Job summary

Henderson Engineers is seeking a Fire Alarm Designer I to design basic building systems and prepare technical documents. You will collaborate with project teams, create layouts and drawings, and review shop drawings for accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, fire protection or architectural) and 1 year of relevant experience, or 4 years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• FE exam completion preferred.
• Certifications aligned with the technical field (e.g., NICET, CPD) preferred.
• Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam Revu is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design basic building systems and prepare technical documents in coordination with project teams.
• Create system layouts, detailed drawings and schematics.

Position Summary

A Fire Alarm Designer I is responsible for designing basic building systems, preparing technical documents and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams.

Responsibilities

• Performs calculations and designs basic engineering systems in collaboration with experienced design staff.
• Prepares system layouts, detailed drawings and schematics.
• Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
• Prepares or modifies reports, plans and designs for projects.
• Acts as a mentor to less experienced designers.
• Supports business development or pursuit activities.
• Participates in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
• Fosters a client-centric mindset and approach.
• Communicates with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of work.
• Supports answeringquestions from clients and architects.
• Occasionally visits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
• Identifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and/or discipline knowledge on a continuous basis.
• Maintains knowledge and understanding of common industry software, including Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office products.
• Research and reviews new products, industry trends and evolving codes and standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field of engineering (i.e.: mechanical, electrical, fire protection or architectural) and 1yearof relevant experienceor4years of experience withhigh school diploma or equivalentis required.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred.
• Additional certifications and accreditationsalignedwith the relevant technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD, etc.) preferred.
• Basic proficiency in engineering design: basic knowledge of the A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards. Knowledge may be applicable to a limited range of practice, project or program types.
• Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam Revu preferred.
• High technical aptitude: ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels in a clear and concise manner.
• Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Team oriented and willingness and ability to function in a highly collaborative environment, in group projects and leading less experienced designers.
• Ability to receive constructive feedback and adjust to coaching.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software applicable to your discipline or focus.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
