Job summary

Western States Fire Protection Company is seeking a Fire Alarm Design Designer to plan and coordinate alarm systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. You will create finished representations, plan initial project timelines, and assemble material lists using AutoCAD-based tools.

The role requires a technical degree, 3+ years in design, and proficiency with AutoCAD or related software. You’ll work closely with project managers and field staff and must pass post-offer screens.

Qualifications

  • Applicable degree from a technical school or college.
  • NICET certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Three years’ experience in commercial, industrial, and residential design.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willing to coordinate and work well with others.
  • Willing to pass a post-offer drug screen, background and reference check.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction documents and coordinate with subcontractors and General Contractor to design fire alarm systems.
  • Apply analytical thinking to determine feasibility and system options.
  • Produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD/AutoSprink/HydraCAD.
  • Create material stock listings for the project.
  • Perform calculations and develop initial schedules.
  • Maintain design history records for future use.
  • Foster positive relationships with customers to meet expectations.
  • Coordinate with other offices for proper handover of information.
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed.

This individual will design and coordinate the fire alarm systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. He or she will design and create the finished representation for the alarm systems using drawing and drafting skills and tools. The drawings produced will be used as a guide by every other link in the chain of construction, both on-site and in the office. The designer will have responsibility for the initial planning of a project including scheduling of time, creating material stock listing, analyzing changes, and solving problems. Close coordination with the project manager, project superintendent, and sales representative will be required throughout the life of the project.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project’s fire alarm system
  • Thorough use of analytical thinking and problem solving, determine construction feasibility and systems possibilities
  • Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoCAD, AutoSprink, or HydraCAD type programs
  • Create stock list for all material required throughout the project
  • Perform calculations
  • Develop initial schedules for preliminary project work
  • Maintain design historical records for future use
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure company is meeting customers’ expectations
  • Coordinate with other offices to ensure proper handover of job information
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed by immediate supervisor or other WSFP management personnel

Job Qualifications

  • Applicable degree from a technical school or college

  • Proven ability and track record of performing work in a timely manner and meeting deadlines
  • Three years’ experience in commercial. industrial, and residential design

  • Willing to pass a post-offer drug screen test, background and reference check
