Job summary

Yrefy, LLC in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Database Design Engineer to design, optimize, and maintain secure, high-performing data structures and database solutions supporting transactional systems and analytics.

The ideal candidate will translate business requirements into scalable designs, collaborate with software engineers, analytics, QA and stakeholders, and focus on accuracy and data quality within a regulated fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in database engineering, design, or data architecture.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database design.
• Experience with data modeling for transactional and analytical systems.
• Hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of database security, backup/recovery, and change management.
• Experience supporting ETL/ELT processes, migrations, or integrations.
• Ability to document technical designs clearly and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain logical and physical database schemas to support development, reporting, and workflows.
• Create and optimize tables, indexes, views, stored procedures and queries for performance and reliability.
• Partner with engineers and stakeholders to translate requirements into effective data models and solutions.
• Support data integration, migration, and transformation across platforms and third-party systems.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies.
• Maintain data integrity and validation standards across environments.
• Document database standards, naming conventions, and design artifacts.
• Assist with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Collaborate on security controls and compliant data handling.
• Participate in release planning, testing, and production support for changes.
• Contribute to architectural improvements and data governance.
