Job summary

Chromalloy is seeking a Metal Worker to grind, blend, sand, buff, and polish aerospace castings. You will use hand and power tools to remove surface imperfections and prepare components to meet engineering specs and customer quality requirements.

Responsibilities include operating pneumatic tools, inspecting work, and documenting production activities. Must read instructions and maintain safety and quality standards in a detailed manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ months of manufacturing, machine operation, production, or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify surface defects and quality issues.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, specs and safety procedures.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to work safely, follow procedures and work well in a team.
  • Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.

  • Grind, blend, sand, buff, and polish metal castings to meet specifications.
  • Operate pneumatic and power hand tools (die grinders, belt sanders, buffing equipment, sandblasting).
  • Remove parting lines, excess material, scratches and burrs.
  • Review routers, work instructions and inspection requirements before starting work.
  • Perform visual inspections and identify areas for weld repair or further processing.
  • Complete rework and repair activities related to inspections (FPI).
  • Select and use correct abrasives, tooling and finishing methods for each operation.
  • Document work performed and complete production paperwork accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.

We’re looking for a Metal Worker to perform grinding, blending, sanding, polishing, and finishing operations on aerospace castings. This role uses hand and power tools to remove surface imperfections and prepare components to meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.

Training

During the training period, employees may be required to work a schedule outside of their regularly assigned shift to support hands-on learning & development. Training is typically conducted Monday-Friday and may occur on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift based on business needs. Upon successful completion of training, employees will transition to their assigned shift.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Grind, blend, sand, buff, and polish metal castings to meet engineering and customer specifications.
  • Operate pneumatic and power hand tools, including die grinders, belt sanders, buffing equipment, and sandblasting equipment.
  • Remove parting lines, excess material, scratches, burrs, and other surface imperfections.
  • Review routers, work instructions, and inspection requirements before beginning work.
  • Perform visual inspections and identify areas requiring weld repair or additional processing.
  • Complete rework and repair activities related to visual inspection and fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI).
  • Select and use the correct abrasives, tooling, and finishing methods for each operation.
  • Document work performed and accurately complete required production paperwork.

What We’re Looking For

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Manufacturing environment with moving equipment, vibration, loud noise, and frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Regular use of hand and power tools for detailed finishing work.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment required for inspection and finishing tasks.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, hand protection, and safety-toed shoes.
