Job summary

Blue Shield of California's Finance Intern program is a 10-week summer experience designed to expose students to health care finance, actuarial, underwriting, and analytics. You will gain a deep understanding of industry practices, develop technical skills, and contribute models and exhibits to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

The role is hybrid, requiring in-office presence two days per week, with scheduling flexibility.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Actuarial Science.
• Preferred 1–2 years of related professional experience, project, or coursework.
• Robust analytical skill-set with Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Financial acumen and ability to synthesize data into insights and reporting.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Job description

Your Role

The Actuarial, Underwriting, and Financial Analytics team oversees our finance operations, underwriting, analytics, actuary, corporate development, cost of healthcare, global business services, internal audit services, controller and finance shared services functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield of California.

The Finance Intern will report to a Team Manager in Actuarial, Underwriting and Financial Analytics. In this role, you will gain a deep understanding of the health care industry basic practices, develop technical skills, and contribute lasting models and exhibits that increase our efficiency and effectiveness.

Your Knowledge and Experience

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Actuarial Science

Hybrid

This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week.

Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.

Pay

$25.00 per hour for Undergraduate

$30.00 per hour for Graduate
