Job Description

Advises and counsels admitted patients regarding their financial responsibility and self-payments. Processes payments, issues patient receipts, and maintains a collection log.

Job Responsibilities

1. Interviews patients to obtain necessary financial and insurance information.
2. Verifies patients' insurance and collects additional insurance information such as No Fault and Workers Compensation.
3. Performs financial assessments of patients; refers potential Medicaid cases to NYSOH or LDSS.
4. Gathers documentation and assists in completing the Financial Assistance Program (FAU) application process.
5. Assists patients and/or families in resolving hospital bills; advises and counsels patients on their payment responsibilities.
6. Establishes patients’ pro-rated financial obligations and sets up payment arrangements/contracts.
7. Follows up on scheduled payments via mail and telephone.
8. Processes applications for Section 1011, where applicable.
9. Maintains a daily work log of payments collected.
10. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here but considered related are not essential functions.

Job Qualifications
