This role manages cash flow, prepares financial statements, provides strategic financial guidance to senior leadership, and drives efforts to strengthen financial performance through disciplined cost management and informed decision-making. The position requires strong leadership and analytical skills, along with deep expertise in corporate finance and financial systems. The Corporate Finance Accounting Director has functional responsibility for corporate-level finance and accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and treasury management, grant accounting, and relationships with investors and financial institutions. This leader oversees all day-to-day non–real estate accounting operations and directly supervises the Corporate Controller and their team of three, as well as the Associate Director of Grants and Compliance and their team of two.

Passion for Mission
The Corporate Finance and Accounting Director will demonstrate a clear commitment to MEDA’s mission and values, with the ability to balance technical accounting excellence with an understanding of how financial decisions impact programs, people, and long‑term sustainability. This leader will approach finance as a strategic enabler of mission, not just a compliance function.
Strategic and Collaborative Leadership
The ideal candidate will bring excellent strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to balance big picture thinking with tactical day-to-day management of the finance and accounting functions. A proven people manager, the Director will create a culture of collaboration, trust, and accountability, fostering stability and retention of the team. This leader will prioritize professional development and mentorship of the team, including providing hands‑on guidance and partnership to program and finance staff supporting grant management.
Finance and Accounting Expertise
The Corporate Finance and Accounting Director will bring an excellent grasp of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles, with the ability to accurately record complex transactions, including investments, lending activities, gains and losses, depreciation, amortization, accruals, and asset valuation. This leader will be highly detail‑oriented and able to work confidently across multiple sub‑ledgers and entities without overstating assets or understating risk.
In addition, the Director will bring strong skills and experience in financial reporting, budgeting, asset liability management, cost/benefit analysis, financial modeling and forecasting, debt financing/lender relations, treasury, cash flow management, audit/internal controls (single audit), and risk management. This individual will bring a deep understanding of nonprofit grant and contract accounting, including federal, state, and private funding, restricted vs. unrestricted funds, compliance requirements, allowable costs, and reporting. Demonstrated experience negotiating and managing federal indirect cost rates is ideal.
Experience managing intercompany transactions and financial reporting across multiple legal entities, programs, or lines of business is ideal. Lastly, the Director will bring a strong command of cost allocation methodologies, shared services models, audit readiness, and documentation required for federally funded organizations of sufficient scale and complexity.
Communication and Relationship Building Skills
The Corporate Finance and Accounting Director will bring strong experience in preparing clear, accurate, and decision‑oriented financial reports for senior leadership and the Board, in support of the CFO. They will help develop Board packets, explain financial results, support cash flow modeling, and, as needed, participate in Board meetings as a trusted finance partner. This leader will bring outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to present financial data and work effectively across all levels of the organization, including the leadership team, the Board, and colleagues at all levels.
Systems Optimization and Process Improvement
The Director will bring demonstrated expertise in accounting systems, including system implementations or conversions. This leader will be skilled at streamlining month‑end close processes, reducing manual journal entries, and optimizing workflows to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. Highly proficient in Excel and financial tools, the Director will have the ability to build, analyze, and maintain complex schedules, reconciliations, cash flow models, and supporting documentation for leadership, auditors, and the Board.
