  • System - Specialty Physician Revenue Cycle

The Financial Resource Coordinator (FRC) is responsible for coordinating insurance benefits, verifying coverage and approval for services, and assisting patients in applying for coverage opportunities. The FRC will contact and educate patients about their insurance benefits, provide treatment estimates, and collect payments. They work closely with SJC’s specialty care teams, including Oncology, OBGYN, and Infusion therapy, to ensure precertification, verify benefits, and inform patients of their financial responsibilities. The FRC handles processes related to self-pay patients, including eligibility screening, estimates, and assistance matching. They operate across multiple departments within SJ/C health system, including the cashier offices at Candler and St. Joseph's hospitals, infusion centers in Bluffton and Savannah, and the centralized billing office. Maintaining open communication with departments like the oncology service line, Patient Financial Services, and the Central Billing Office is crucial. The FRC reports to the Financial Assistance Manager.

Education

Bachelor's degree - Preferred

Experience

At least 1 year of customer service experience in healthcare, medical coding and billing, prior authorization, insurance, or medical finance is required.

Core Job Functions

  • Answer telephones courteously, relay messages accurately, and assist with inquiries regarding accounts, referrals, appointments, and insurance.
  • Use scripting and expectation management to promote customer satisfaction.
  • Verify insurance coverage, determine patient responsibility, and explain it to patients.
  • Establish payment arrangements and collect balances due.
  • Educate patients about in-network and out-of-network policies.
  • Process Financial Assistance requests, gather and submit applications, and communicate application status.
  • Follow up on additional documentation needs or non-compliance.
  • Assess Medicaid eligibility and perform Medicaid Newborn processes per guidelines.
  • Determine necessity for precertification, coordinate with insurance companies, and document authorization codes.
  • Monitor payer portals, maintain updated files on payer requirements, and communicate updates to clinical staff.
  • Handle patient payments, perform daily deposits, and manage end-of-day reports.
