Job summary

Western Alliance Bank seeks a Financial Reporting Manager to oversee the Regulatory Reporting function and ensure timely, accurate delivery of statutory and regulator reports. The role requires SME-level Basel knowledge, SOX compliance, and leadership across the department.

You will manage daily to quarterly reporting to Federal Reserve, coordinate audits, and drive continuous improvements while supporting growth initiatives and internal controls enhancements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Masters or MBA preferred.
  • Experience with Basel rules and capital ratio calculations preferred.
  • Strong leadership experience required; ability to supervise without day-to-day oversight.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of banking operations and regulatory obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and review of Basel Capital Ratios quarterly as SME.
  • Lead Basel NPR implementation from a reporting perspective.
  • Assist with LFI readiness including Y-14 M/Q/A, Y-15, FFIEC 031.
  • Oversee daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly regulatory reports to Federal Reserve.
  • Stay current on GAAP, banking regulators, and related industry practices.
  • Assess impact of changes and coordinate implementation with stakeholders.
  • Support growth initiatives and cross-department collaboration.
  • Develop relationships across functions for collaboration.
  • Assist with external audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Provide ad hoc reports to CAO and executive management.

Job description

What You'll Do

The Financial Reporting Manager (FRM) will report directly to a Financial Reporting Director and will be primarily responsible for overseeing the Company’s Regulatory Reporting function, performing both recurring and ad hoc duties, with accountability for timely and accurate delivery. The FRM is expected to have robust subject matter expertise (SME) and the ability to lead and manage functional areas without day-to-day tactical oversight. The FRM also plays a key role in ensuring compliance with SOX, policies and procedures, as well as applicable banking regulations.

  • Lead the preparation and review of the Basel Capital Ratios on a quarterly basis. Serve as an SME for the capital calculation by providing insight for new business initiatives, timely responding to management requests, and documenting key interpretations and assumptions.
  • Lead the implementation of the Basel NPR from a reporting perspective.
  • Assist with Large Financial Institution Readiness (LFI), including but not limited to Y-14 M/Q/A, Y-15, FFIEC 031.
  • Lead in the day-to-day operations of the Regulatory Reporting Department, including preparing and reviewing the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports filed with the Federal Banking Agencies, primarily the Federal Reserve.
  • Remain current on recent rules, interpretations, and industry practices (GAAP, Banking Federal Registrars and Financial Institution Letters).
  • Assess the impact of these changes on the Company and communicate with the relevant parties to ensure that any changes are correctly implemented.
  • Support growth initiatives, including but not limited to new business lines, product extensions and M&A within their area of influence, ensuring that business initiatives are supported with regard to both launch dates and the necessary consideration of changes to internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Actively develop relationships across functional areas to ensure cross departmental collaboration.
  • Assist with external financial audits, regulatory examinations, and similar activities.
  • Provide ad hoc reports customized to the needs of the Chief Accounting Officer or other members of executive management.
What You\'ll Need
  • 4+ years of related experience in Accounting, Finance (GL Management, Public Reporting, Analysis) or similar field
  • Experience with the Basel rules and calculation of capital ratios preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with a Big 4 (or top tier) audit firm and/or current Regulatory reporting experience at a public company.
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to work independently and balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and related accounting concepts.
  • Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and organization skills.
  • Effectively interact with all levels within the Company and subsidiaries.
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Advanced computer skills including, but not limited to AxiomSL, Microsoft Excel, Oracle, SQL Server, and Workiva.
  • Occasional travel required.
