Job Summary:

As a Financial Operations Intern at BPMI, you will work under significant oversight and perform routine business functions to support company operations in areas including but not limited to accounting, financial forecasting, budgeting, prime contract management, funding determinations, and analysis in support of Government projects. This opportunity will begin Summer 2027, working a full-time schedule (40 hours/week). Please note, this is not a remote position. You will be expected to come into the office for this opportunity. Our internship will give you the opportunity to work in your field of study while simultaneously pursuing your bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. These opportunities can enhance your academic training while teaching critical business skills and allowing you to learn about BPMI, the Navy, and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Essential Duties:

• Perform accounting and/or finance functions to support ongoing financial operations with significant oversight. This includes tasks such as processing transactions, recording cost allocations and distributions, reconciling data, performing variance analyses, obtaining and verifying financial forecasts, and preparing accounting statements and financial reporting products.
• Prepare, analyze, review, and maintain actual results, budgets, forecasts, prime contract forecasts, financial plans, and/or summary reports and statements with significant oversight.
• Assist in the preparation of internal or external reports and databases.
• Assist with the development of manpower budget plans, including the creation of accounting charge codes (time charges).
• Assist in evaluations of technical work scopes from engineers, and to make funding determinations on what types of funding to apply and work with assigned Engineering Groups to administer the financial function of contracts utilizing government funds best applies based on government funding guidelines.
• Review and verify accuracy of entries and accounting classifications, summarize key areas of concern, and highlight problems to present to management.
• Assist in preparing responses to requests from internal customers, Government personnel, and auditors for review by more senior financial analysts or management prior to delivery to the appropriate recipient.
• Perform appraisals to monitor compliance with policies and procedures and maintain policies and procedures in assigned areas.
• Respond to internal questions regarding accounting/finance procedures and requirements.
• Perform peer reviews of updated policies and procedures.
• Maintain desk procedures for assigned responsibilities.
• Understand and comply with established processes for financial functions in areas of assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or equivalent, or MBA, from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of four full semesters completed prior to your internship (~60 credits).
• Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
