The Financial Management Intern supports the Finance & Governance Manager in maintaining records, improving processes, and ensuring donor/regulatory compliance. Qualifications

  • Strong numerical reasoning and attention to detail.
  • Basic proficiency in Excel; familiarity with accounting tools is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with diverse teams.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and responsible financial stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: ensure timely payment and reconciliation of invoices; track AR and budget impact.
  • Budget Support: assist in preparing project budgets and tracking cash flow.
  • Financial Reporting: help compile monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management and the Executive Board.
  • Fund Management & Compliance: track restricted funds and prepare donor reports.
  • Audit Preparation: assist in organizing documentation for external audits.
  • Process Improvement: help implement streamlined financial processes and SOPs.

Protect.ngo is a Switzerland- and Netherlands-based foundation dedicated to protecting those who protect others. Our mission is to expose and defend: we expose the human impact of cyberattacks and information manipulation targeting civil society organizations, and we defend them through cybersecurity support, technology, and a global network of talents. By combining direct assistance with evidence-based advocacy, we strengthen digital resilience and advance accountability for civil society worldwide. The Financial Management Intern supports Protect.ngo’s Finance & Governance Manager in maintaining accurate records, strengthening financial processes, and ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for students seeking hands‑on experience in nonprofit financial operations.

  • Practical experience with budgeting, donor compliance, and audit preparation

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable
    • Ensure timely payment and reconciliation of invoices.
    • Track accounts receivable and their impact on the budget runway.
  • Budget Support
    • Assist in preparing project budgets, updating budget trackers, reviewing spending against approved allocations, and tracking cash flow.
  • Financial Reporting
    • Help compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the Executive Board.
  • Fund Management & Compliance
    • Assist with accurate tracking of restricted funds.
    • Assist in the preparation of reports for donors.
  • Audit Preparation
    • Support the Finance & Governance Manager in organizing documentation for external audits.
  • Process Improvement
    • Assist in the implementation of streamlined financial processes and development of SOPs.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field.
  • Interest in civil society and non-profit work.

  • Basic proficiency in Excel; familiarity with accounting tools is a plus.

Preferred Skills
  • Strong knowledge of excel functions - pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data cleaning, etc.
  • Prior volunteer or internship experience in nonprofit settings.
  • Requirement: tripartite internship convention/agreementprovided by the school/University
  • Start date: as soon as possible
  • Duration: 6-12 months (flexible, renewable upon review)
  • Working rate: ideally full-time (32 hours per week, from Monday to Thursday)
