Job description

We are seeking an accomplished, strategic, and hands-on Director of Finance to lead the financial operations of a well-established hotel in the heart of Manhattan's Upper West Side.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hospitality finance professional who enjoys being an integral part of a hotel's executive leadership team. The ideal candidate combines strong financial expertise with operational insight, a collaborative leadership style, and a genuine passion for the hospitality industry.

The Director of Finance will oversee all aspects of the hotel's financial operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility, accurate reporting, effective internal controls, and long-term financial performance. This individual will work closely with the General Manager and department leaders to support sound business decisions and maximize profitability while maintaining the hotel's commitment to an exceptional guest experience.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Direct all accounting and financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and executive leadership team.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and recommend strategies to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the preparation of annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and financial forecasts.
  • Provide timely, accurate financial reporting and meaningful analysis to ownership and management.
  • Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate financial audits and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and banking relationships.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the hotel's accounting and finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear financial processes and ensure the team operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Build strong working relationships across all hotel departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive hotel accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Previous experience as a Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance, or Controller within a full-service, upscale, or luxury hotel environment.
  • Strong understanding of hotel financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, internal controls, payroll, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency with hotel accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate financial information into actionable recommendations for operational leaders.
  • Strong leadership skills with a collaborative, approachable, and solutions-oriented management style.
  • New York City hotel experience is highly desirable.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for more than someone who can manage the numbers. The successful candidate will be a trusted business partner who understands how financial decisions affect the entire hotel operation.

This individual will be comfortable moving between detailed financial analysis and high-level strategic conversations, bringing a practical, thoughtful approach to both. They will be proactive, organized, and confident in their expertise, while remaining approachable and collaborative with colleagues across all departments.

Most importantly, they will appreciate the unique dynamics of an established Manhattan hotel and recognize that strong financial leadership is essential to delivering both exceptional guest experiences and sustainable business results.
