Metro Credit Union is seeking a Financial Crimes Specialist to protect members, respond to suspected fraud, and support regulatory reporting. You will investigate fraud events, interview members, and coordinate with internal teams to prevent losses while maintaining excellent member service.
You will also educate members on identity theft prevention, handle fraud-related inquiries, and escalate complex cases to senior staff as needed.
Financial crime can have an immediate and deeply personal impact on members. The Financial Crimes Specialist serves on the front line of protecting member accounts, preventing losses, and helping members navigate suspected fraud with clarity and care.
This role exists to identify suspicious activity early, respond quickly to potential threats, and strengthen the systems and practices Metro uses to protect its members. You will join a collaborative and dynamic Financial Crimes team where your judgment, attention to detail, and follow-through will have a direct and visible impact on member protection and community safety.
The investigation and documentation of suspected fraudulent activity
Timely action to protect member accounts and reduce potential losses
Clear, supportive communication with members experiencing possible fraud or identity theft
Consistent management of fraud-related calls, cases, referrals, and escalations
Accurate preparation of information supporting regulatory reporting
Identification of fraud trends and opportunities to strengthen detection practices
Analyze fraud alerts, ad hoc reports, contact events, and internal referrals to identify and address suspicious or fraudulent activity.
Interview members to gather facts, understand what occurred, and support fraud identification and resolution.
Educate members on practical steps to prevent and respond to identity theft.
Provide coverage for the Financial Crimes phone queue and respond to questions from members and internal departments.
Manage fraud cases according to established procedures and upscale complex matters to senior team members or management.
Freeze member accounts and channel access when appropriate to prevent or reduce loss exposure.
Perform authorized monetary transactions designed to limit potential losses.
Prepare clear, accurate narratives supporting FinCEN Suspicious Activity Report, or SAR, filing requirements.
Work with other financial institutions and law enforcement agencies by providing appropriate information and documentation for criminal investigations.
Refer accounts with realized losses to Collections and Recovery for additional action.
Analyze losses and emerging fraud patterns, then recommend adjustments to fraud-detection parameters and processes.
Represent Metro on committees and participate in meetings as needed.
Perform additional responsibilities as directed by management.
Fraud alerts, referrals, and member concerns are investigated thoroughly and handled according to established procedures.
Potential losses are identified and addressed promptly through appropriate account and access controls.
Members receive clear, respectful guidance during sensitive fraud and identity-theft situations.
Case documentation and SAR-supporting narratives are accurate, complete, and actionable.
Escalations are handled with sound judgment and brought to the appropriate senior team member or manager when needed.
Fraud trends and recurring patterns are identified and shared with management to support stronger detection and prevention.
Internal teams view you as a responsive and trusted partner on fraud-related matters.

You will actively use Metro’s Microsoft Copilot and other approved AI-powered tools to improve productivity, streamline workflows, and support operational efficiency across the Financial Crimes team. AI should enhance research, organization, drafting, analysis, and process improvement while human judgment remains central to member protection, investigations, escalations, and regulatory decisions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document and explain fraud-related activity
Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify patterns and suspicious transactions
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to guide members through sensitive fraud situations
Proficiency with computer systems and the ability to navigate fraud-detection tools and platforms
High school diploma or equivalent
One to three years of related experience in financial services, fraud and security, or financial crimes

Hybrid Policy Eligibility
Minimum days in office per week: 3 (Tuesday and Wednesday required).
Minimum days in office for onboarding: 90 days.

Compensation Disclosure
$32.00 – $35.00/ hour.
The salary range listed provides a general expectation for the role. Final compensation is based on experience, unique strengths, and the impact you are expected to make. Metro also offers a competitive benefits package and additional perks that contribute to total compensation.
