Mayo Clinic is seeking a Financial Counselor to help patients manage their financial clearance related to treatment. This role requires updating insurance and demographic data in the Epic system and explaining payment options to patients and families.

The incumbent will assist with Medicaid, Third Party eligibility, and Charity Care questions, set up payment plans, and collect self-pay balances while meeting quality and productivity standards.

Qualifikationen

• High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• HFMA Certification preferred.
• Knowledge of Epic RC/EMR system preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

HYBRID: This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of any of the Mayo Clinic campuses for on-site expectations based on business needs.

Work Environment: Enjoy the flexibility of working remotely while remaining connected to the team. This hybrid position is predominantly remote, with rare on-site attendance that may be required for occasional meetings, training sessions, or operational needs.

The Financial Counselor is responsible for promptly assisting patients with their financial clearance prior to, during, or after their treatment period. This position is responsible for obtaining and updating insurance, financial, and demographic information within the Epic environment. Courteously and professionally helps patients and/or their families understand and assist with options to cover their financial obligations including but not limited to: co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance. In addition, the counselors may assist patients with Medicaid, Third Party eligibility and Charity Care applications and processing. Responsible for establishing payment plans and collecting true self-pay and self-pay residual balances as necessary. Responsible for assisting patients with ad-hoc financial issues as needed prior to, during and following their treatment at Mayo Clinic. This role requires adherence to quality assurance guidelines as well as established productivity standards to support the work unit’s performance expectations.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of relevant experience required

OR

Bachelor’s degree required

Prior Medical Insurance Experience Preferred Knowledge of and experience using an Epic RC/EMR system is preferred. Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification Preferred.

Ability to read and communicate effectively, basic computer/keyboarding skills, intermediate mathematic competency, good written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of proper phone etiquette and phone handling skills required.

Position requires good verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a complex and patient-centered environment. Incumbents must be comfortable with ambiguity, exhibit good decision making and judgment capabilities, and attention to detail. It is expected that staff are self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized and agree to promote a productive, collegial workplace. Staff should have the ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously. Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential.
