Job summary

CFO Strategies LLC in the United States seeks an experienced accountant to manage general accounting for multiple clients, with emphasis on construction accounting, % complete, and WIP reporting. The role reports to senior CFO Strategies staff and serves several client accounts with on-site and remote support.

The right candidate will have construction accounting experience, GAAP knowledge, and strong Excel/Sage skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field.
  • Construction accounting experience required; AIAs preferred.
  • Excel proficiency with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables; Sage products preferred.
  • GAAP knowledge and strong accounting fundamentals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical with attention to detail and ability to improve processes.
  • Able to work with senior executives and mentor others.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day accounting for multiple client accounts and periodic reporting.
  • Monitor cash position and prepare cash flow projections; maintain GL and reconciliations.
  • Assist in financial statements using percentage of completion for construction clients.
  • Evaluate accounts receivable and collections.
  • Coordinate with project managers to report job costs and percentage of completion.
  • Prepare work-in-progress schedules and external-party reports.
  • Support audits and monitor internal controls; implement improvements.
  • Back up accounting records daily; contribute to the internal control environment.

Job description

This position is responsible for general accounting functions and maintaining of the financial books and records for several clients. This position will report to a senior level of the CFO Strategies team with day-to-day accountability to each of the assigned clients.

Candidates with CONSTRUCTION Accounting experience required. Percentage of completion accounting and job costing required. WIP experience required.

We are a team of experienced financial professionals that works with companies to help them manage their day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, as well as strategic planning, relationship management, and financial contingency planning.

A successful candidate for this role is:

Flexible: This position requires commuting to our clients in the NJ and NY & NYC area. You must be comfortable with being assigned to several client accounts and being in different locations throughout the work week. Not a typical 9-5 position where you are at one location every day of the week. In a given week you may be remote some days and on site at different locations different days of the week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day accounting department activities, including the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of all transactions.
  • Monitor cash position of the company, including the preparation of weekly/monthly cash flow projections. Maintain general ledger and prepare reconciliations of all significant accounts with external or other independent records. Prepare journal entries for certain transactions and make adjustments to existing accounts as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, based on the percentage of completion method (for construction clients), and prepare other key financial/business reports for management.
  • Evaluate accounts receivable for collectability and pursuing collections.
  • Work closely with project managers and chief estimator to ensure timely and accurate accounting and reporting of all job cost information, including percentage of completion of projects, and billings. Ensure any changes or adjustments are recorded on a timely basis.
  • Prepare all monthly work in process schedules based on the percentage of completion method.
  • Prepare necessary reports for external parties, including banks and other creditors, insurance and surety companies, underwriters, etc.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits by external parties, including external accountants, unions, the IRS, etc.
  • Evaluate the internal accounting controls of the company and making necessary recommendations for improvements. Monitoring compliance with the internal controls and operating procedures, and establishing periodic self-audit procedures.
  • Benchmark controls, operating procedures, and systems with other similar companies and ensuring that we apply best practices in the industry.
  • Ensure that all accounting records are adequately backed-up daily.

General Management

  • Support and maintain strategies and work plans for clients in alignment with overall CFO Strategies vision. Participate in regular meetings to oversee the plan and ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of clients’ team and other CFO Strategies team members, where appropriate.
  • Participate in additional projects for the client and CFO Strategies, as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field preferred. Professional certification (CPA) a plus. Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
  • Candidates with construction accounting experience required, experience working with AIAs preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel (v-look ups, pivot tables). Sage Intacct, Sage 300 (Timberline), Sage 100, Foundation, and other Construction Accounting and operating software experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and financial processes and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations. Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Able to work well with senior executives and team and coach and mentor other team members
