Job summary

You will educate patients on coverage and obligations, collect payments, and coordinate financial assistance referrals while documenting activities in the EMR and supporting calling patients and staff with inquiries.

Qualifications

• Two years of progressively responsible, related work experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare registration and billing.
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medi-Cal, Workers’ Compensation, and managed care plans.
• Experience with CCS and GHPP programs.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient registration, update insurance information, and verify real-time payer eligibility and benefits.
• Determine insurance liability across government and commercial plans.
• Generate automated cost estimates and explain coverage and patient responsibilities.
• Collect and record payments, follow cash-handling protocols, and arrange payments when needed.
• Serve as primary contact for registration, insurance, and billing questions; escalate as needed.
• Document financial clearance activities and patient communications in the EMR.

• Manage inbox messages, emails, and registration inquiries with accuracy and productivity.
• Cross-train on financial clearance and potential service-line rescheduling workflows.

Financial Clearance Coordinator

Menlo Park, CA

You are a Financial Clearance Coordinator who manages patient registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, and cost estimates to support timely medical services and accurate billing. This role educates patients on insurance coverage and financial obligations, collects payments, coordinates financial assistance referrals, and ensures accurate documentation and compliance with established procedures.

This position pays: $40.00 to $42.00 per hour

What you will be doing:

• Manage patient registration, update insurance information, and verify real-time payer eligibility and benefits.
• Determine primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance liability across government and commercial plans.
• Generate automated cost estimates through EPIC EMR and explain coverage, patient responsibilities, and billing processes.
• Collect and accurately record payments, follow cash-handling protocols, and establish payment arrangements as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary contact for registration, insurance, and billing questions, escalating complex issues when necessary.
• Document financial clearance activities and patient communications in the EMR.
• Connect patients with financial counselors and assist with financial assistance applications and required documentation.
• Manage inbox messages, emails, and registration inquiries while maintaining accuracy and productivity standards.
• Cross-train on financial clearance and potential service-line rescheduling workflows.

What you bring:

• At least two years of progressively responsible, directly related work experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare registration and billing processes.
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medi-Cal, Workers’ Compensation, managed care plans (HMO, PPO, POS), and children’s health programs such as CCS and GHPP.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate operational issues and recommend solutions.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with patients, physicians, and staff at all organizational levels.
• Proficiency with computer systems and software relevant to healthcare registration and financial clearance.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, customer service, and the ability to manage daily workload and productivity expectations.
