Job summary

NewGen Strategies & Solutions in Lakewood, CO is seeking a Financial Analyst / Consultant to support its Energy Practice. You will build financial models, analyze large datasets, and create clear dashboards to help utilities and clients forecast costs and plan investments.

You’ll work with energy industry experts to develop insights, present results, and contribute to rate and fee decisions across projects nationwide. This associate role offers growth with a strong collaborative culture.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Math, or another quantitative field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a finance- or data-related role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with core financial concepts (inflation, depreciation, discount rates, operating costs, capital planning, debt metrics).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Develop financial models in Microsoft Excel to forecast costs, revenues, and performance indicators.
  • Analyze large data sets including financial, demographic, customer, and service/billing data.
  • Create clear, user-friendly data visualizations, dashboards, and charts.
  • Communicate results through written reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research (benchmarking rates, fees, service levels, cost drivers).
  • Build subject matter expertise in energy services and markets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across NewGen’s Energy, Water, and Solid Waste practices.

The Role

The Financial Analyst / Consultant role in the Energy Practice is an associate-level position with opportunity for advancement. We’re looking for SOLVERS—people who approach challenges with curiosity and enjoy solving complex problems. In this role, you’ll work directly with industry experts to build your skills while supporting energy clients across the country.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop financial models in Microsoft Excel to help energy utilities and organizations forecast costs, revenues, and performance indicators

Required Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a finance- or data-related role
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with core financial concepts (e.g., inflation, depreciation, discount rates, operating costs, capital planning, debt metrics/coverage concepts)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with advanced Excel features (VBA, Power Query, Power Pivot, Power BI)
  • Experience inenergy, utilities, or local government
  • Knowledge of programming languages for data analysis (Python, R, SQL)
  • Experience with GIS or spatial analysis tools (e.g., ArcGIS)

  • Base compensation of $68,000 – $75,000, depending on experience and qualifications

Additional Information
Location:

Lakewood, CO. In-person role, with the opportunity for two days of work from home.

Employee Type:
