Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Financial Analyst for the AFT Budgeting Organization located at Plant Yates in Newnan, GA. You will support Plant Yates and Plant Wansley financials, provide direction for budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial leadership to drive growth and efficiency.

The role requires in-office work four days a week and occasional travel for storm logistics. A Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance or related field and GAAP knowledge are needed.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field is required.
• Basic understanding of GAAP and FASB.
• Experience in Budgeting, Finance, Accounting or similar experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex processes into educational guidance for internal teams.
• Identify documentation, training, and reporting gaps as a self-starter.
• Create reports to support financial analysis across the organization.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external partners to deepen business understanding.
• Analyze financial risks and opportunities to influence decisions.
• Identify issues and propose solutions to improve financial and operational performance.
• Understand Budget Preparation and Financial Reporting.
• Conduct financial analysis, guidance, reporting, and communication (O&M, Capital, Asset Management).
• Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of financial information.
• Recommend resource allocation and cost savings opportunities.
• Develop 5-year budgets annually with stakeholders.
• Support your business unit in meeting targets.
• Maintain high visibility of compliance.
• Help management ensure employees understand policies and procedures.
• Perform control activities to ensure compliance.
• Provide guidance on accounting, finance and compliance issues.
• Establish and maintain effective communications within AFT.
• Assist with special projects and occasional travel as needed.
