Job summary

The Metropolitan Museum of Art seeks a Financial Analyst, Licensing & Royalties to manage, analyze, and report royalty and licensing revenue and expenses across a global brand portfolio. You will ensure accurate calculation, payment, collection, and reconciliation of obligations while delivering insights to support strategy and profitability.

Ideal candidates combine strong financial analysis with contract interpretation and experience with licensing agreements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3-4 years of experience in financial analysis, royalty accounting, or licensing finance.
  • Strong Excel, financial modeling, and data analysis skills.
  • Understanding of accrual accounting and revenue recognition principles.
  • Experience reviewing contractual financial terms and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and validate royalty revenues and expenses per licensing agreements.
  • Review and interpret licensing contracts for accurate royalty rates, guarantees, advances, deductions and terms.
  • Prepare and process royalty accruals, settlements, invoices and payment schedules.
  • Investigate discrepancies in sales, usage metrics, royalties, and payments.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly and annual royalty reports to identify trends and risks.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses to support decision-making and business initiatives.
  • Develop forecasts and planning models for licensing revenues and expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and internal policies.
  • Support audits and coordinate with licensors and licensees.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to interpret contracts and advise on financial implications.

This role ensures accurate calculation, payment, collection, and reconciliation of royalty obligations while providing financial insights that support licensing strategy, contract compliance, forecasting, and profitability analysis.The ideal candidate combines strong financial analysis skills with contract interpretation capabilities and possesses experience working with complex royalty agreements, including master licensing and representative agreements with global licensing agencies, revenue-sharing arrangements, and collaborations. The candidate should also have experience using BrandComply or similar licensing enterprise software platform.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:Calculate and validate royalty revenues and expenses in accordance with licensing agreements.Review and interpret licensing contracts to ensure accurate application of royalty rates, guarantees, advances, deductions, and payment terms.Prepare and process royalty accruals, settlements, invoices, and payment schedules.Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to reported sales, usage metrics, royalty calculations, and payments.Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual royalty reporting to analyze trends and contract performance and identify risks and opportunities.Prepare ad hoc analyses supporting strategic decision-making and business development initiatives.Develop and maintain forecasts and annual planning models for licensing and royalty revenues and expenses, incorporating contract terms, royalty rates, sales projections, minimum guarantees, and other key deal assumptions to support financial planning and decision-making.Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and internal financial policies.Support royalty audit activities and coordinate responses to external auditors, licensors, and licensees.Partner cross-functionally to interpret contracts, resolve financial issues, provide guidance on financial implications of proposed deals, and support management with performance metrics and recommendations to optimize licensing revenuesREQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.3-4 years of experience in financial analysis, royalty accounting, licensing finance, revenue accounting, or related disciplines.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling, and data analysis.Strong understanding of financial statements, accrual accounting, and revenue recognition principles.Experience reviewing and interpreting contractual financial terms.Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication abilities.Experience in media, entertainment, publishing, consumer products, software, gaming, retail, fashion, sports, or intellectual property-based businesses preferred.Knowledge of royalty management systems and ERP platforms including Workday and Brand Comply is a plus.CPA, CFA, or progress toward certification is a plus.COMPENSATION:Pay Rate: $90,000 - $100,000 / AnnuallyThe advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role.
