Job summary

Great Hearts Texas is seeking a senior finance professional to lead accounting and financial reporting for our educational network. You will drive budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis while ensuring GAAP compliance and internal controls.

The role requires 7+ years of experience, advanced Excel skills, and experience with ERP systems like Workday or Sage Intacct. TEA/DOE reporting familiarity is a plus; on-site Texas position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or related field required.
  • MBA preferred to enhance leadership in finance.
  • 7+ years of finance/accounting experience required.
  • Experience in education or non-profit preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Workday, Sage Intacct, or similar software preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with GAAP and FASB.
  • TEA and DOE reporting preferred; familiarity with related standards.
  • General ledger and posting journal entries experience required.
  • Experience with Adaptive Reporting systems or similar recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, investigate, and report financial data for decision-making.
  • Perform complex financial and operational analysis for strategic plans and budgets.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and guide staff on reconciling.
  • Identify variances during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting.
  • Propose corrective or reclass journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly actual-to-budget reports and explain fluctuations.
  • Create tables and visuals for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to Academies and the Board.
  • Review reporting processes and identify improvements.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports of performance to leadership.
  • Provide financial guidance to Headmasters and assist with budgets.
  • Develop Academy forecasts and annual budgets with departments.
  • Present quarterly Board reports and monitor costs for new projects.
  • Coordinate Academy projects with IT and facilities.
  • Document policies and procedures; ensure compliance.
  • Manage projects: planning, delegating, monitoring, evaluating.
  • Develop financial models for business opportunities and decision-making.
  • Identify internal control issues and remediate.

Job description

  • Collect, analyze, investigate, and report financial data for financial decision-making
  • Perform complex financial and operational analysis supporting strategic plans, operating budgets, financial reporting, and special projects
  • Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations and guide staff on account reconciliations
  • Identify and research variances during month-end, quarterly, and year-end reporting
  • Propose corrective or reclassing journal entries
  • Prepare monthly actual-to-budget reports and narratives explaining unusual fluctuations
  • Create tables, charts, and illustrative materials for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to Academies and the Board
  • Review financial reporting processes and identify improvements
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Review financial information and assess budget-to-actual performance with Headmasters
  • Provide financial guidance and support to Headmasters
  • Evaluate Academy-level spending, resolve potential issues, and ensure compliance with budget allocations
  • Develop Academy forecasts and annual budgets with departments
  • Prepare and present quarterly Board reports
  • Oversee and monitor costs for assigned new school expansion projects
  • Coordinate Academy projects with IT and facilities
  • Create and document policies and procedures and ensure compliance
  • Manage projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating work
  • Develop financial models to evaluate business opportunities and support decision-making
  • Identify and communicate internal control issues
  • Research complex business issues, develop subject-matter expertise, and recommend solutions
  • Assist with the annual audit, Single Audit including SEFA reporting, and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report
  • Perform other duties as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field at minimum
  • MBA preferred
  • Seven plus years of finance/accounting work experience
  • Experience in education or non-profit preferred
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Workday, Sage Intacct, or similar software highly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with GAAP and FASB
  • TEA and DOE reporting requirements preferred
  • General ledger and posting journal entries experience
  • Experience in Adaptive Reporting systems or similar

  • Self-starter able to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment

  • Must possess or obtain a valid Texas Department of Public Safety fingerprinting
  • US Work Authorization is required
  • Successful criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance required
  • Ability to perform required physical functions, including standing, sitting, repetitive movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
  • Ability to move or position equipment up to approximately 15 pounds
