Job summary

Forge Group, LLC in Virginia is seeking a part-time Analyst to support FP&A activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. This role requires strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings to non-financial stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • US Citizen.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or financial analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (complex formulas, modeling, data manipulation).
  • Demonstrated experience building financial models and preparing budget/forecast deliverables.

We are looking for candidates who communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance audiences and who take ownership of their analyses end-to-end.

Job Description

The candidate will support the company's financial planning and analysis function, owning the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis cycles that inform executive decision-making. This position will build and maintain financial models that translate contract activity, indirect rate structures, and operating expenses into actionable forecasts. The candidate will partner closely with accounting, program management, and leadership to explain financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and improve the accuracy of projections over time. This role sits at the intersection of data and strategy, requiring both technical modeling rigor and the ability to communicate findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the candidate will be (but aren't limited to):

  • Build, maintain, and improve the annual budget and rolling forecast, incorporating contract revenue, direct labor, and indirect expense drivers.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis (budget vs. actual vs. forecast) and prepare clear written commentary explaining drivers for leadership.
  • Maintain indirect rate models and monitor rate performance against provisional and target rates throughout the year.
  • Support contract-level financial analysis, including EAC/ETC reviews, funding vs. spend tracking, and profitability by contract.
  • Extract, transform, and reconcile data from the accounting system to ensure reporting integrity across source systems.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting, headcount planning, and scenario/sensitivity analysis to support strategic decisions.
  • Partner with program managers and department leads to gather assumptions, validate forecasts, and translate operational plans into financial terms.
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation across the FP&A reporting cycle.

Minimum Qualifications
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or financial analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (complex formulas, modeling, data manipulation).
  • Demonstrated experience building financial models and preparing budget/forecast deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage recurring reporting deadlines.
Highly Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with financial or ERP systems and BI/reporting tools.
  • Experience in or exposure to the government contracting industry.
  • Understanding of contract types (FFP, T&M, Cost-Reimbursable) and how each affects revenue recognition and billing.
  • Exposure to proposal or pricing support, including cost buildups
  • Experience presenting financial results and recommendations to senior leadership.
