Job summary

The University of Texas System Administration is seeking a data analyst to support financial information for budget decisions and institutional reporting. You will work with the Office of Budget and Planning on monthly and annual financial reports and the operating budget development.

The role requires knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, and data visualization tools, with a preference for experience in GASB and systems like PeopleSoft and Power BI.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, business analytics or related field with at least two years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting and a legislative appropriations process.

Responsibilities

• Research and provide financial information to support budget and decision-making for UT System Administration and institutions.
• Assist with monthly and annual financial reports and the annual operating budget.
• Support policy/procedure development and act as SME for department systems; assist data loads and dashboard maintenance.
• Support data analysis for legislative reporting.
• Support business services for UT System Administration departments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Purpose of Position

Supports the data analysis and various systems used to provide financial information for data informed decision making by UT System Administration leadership and UT institutions.

Essential Functions

• Research and provide financial information that supports decision-making pertaining to UT System Administration and UT Institutions regarding budget and long-term and short-term decisions.
• Assists with preparation of monthly financial reports, annual financial reports and the annual operating budget development.
• Support the development of policies and procedures for the department operations and acts as subject matter expert with the various system applications used by our department. This would include the support of data loads and maintenance as needed for dashboard and routine automated processes.
• Supports the data analysis needs for legislative reporting.
• Supports the business services provided to the UT System Administration departments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting and a legislative appropriations process
• Strong skills in strategic thinking and ability to clearly communicate objectives and intended outcomes
• Knowledge of common office and analytical software
• Internally motivated to provide high-quality work products and meet deadlines

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, business analytics or other closely related field with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PeopleSoft, Hyperion Financial Management, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power BI and other query based or data visualization tools.
• Experience in working in higher education with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) knowledge.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in TRS is mandatory.
