The University of Arizona Cancer Center is the only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center headquartered in Arizona and one of only 57 such centers in the United States. With more than a dozen research and education offices throughout the state, the center’s mission is to alleviate the burden of cancer in Arizona.

The Financial Analysis Manager plays a key role in overseeing financial and accounting administration including creating financial and budget reports, analyzing expenditures for compliance with budget, policies, and guidelines, developing and implementing processes, procedures, and efficiencies for the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) within the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC). In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Finance and the Associate Director of Administration, they will help to effectively manage, protect, and leverage the UACC CTO's financial resources. Prepares, collects, and interprets financial information, and develops budgets, forecasts, and statutory returns. Responsible for various levels of financial reporting for external and internal utilization not limited to federal, state, and governing body. The Financial Analysis Manager is accountable for both administrative and financial management operations, including the development of financial metrics and the ongoing development and monitoring of systems designed to report accurate financial results, working with Oncore and retrieving data, invoicing of clinical trials, managing accounts receivables, Time and Effort reporting, and allocating efforts to trials.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create accurate and timely financial reports and summary analyses for Leadership, PIs,& CRTs, interpreting data upon request.
  • Create annual budget for CTO. Develop budgets and forecasts upon request.
  • Analyze and approve, when appropriate, all revenue & expenditures (determine if proper based on policy and guidelines).
  • Respond to questions and concerns from UA & UACC leadership and staff.
  • Plan, guide and manage annual year-end closing procedures ensuring all entries and adjustments are completed by UA deadlines and in compliance with University guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative work environment with various departments and staff within UA as well as outside vendors and collaborators. i.e. Sponsored Projects-pre-award/post-awards, contracting, IT support, Accounts Payable, Cash Accounting, sellers, consultants, etc.
  • Negotiate or settle outstanding accounts payable to Banner Hospital and various vendors.
  • Develop and maintain effort reporting processes.
  • Provide summary analyses for Leadership, PIs & CRTs, interpreting data upon request.
  • Monitor actual financial performance to budget monthly. Identify variations and investigate occurrences.
  • Assist, upon request, with the development of business plans (i.e. ACTN) working with various departments to ensure accuracy and clarification of data provided.
  • Plan and analyze daily, weekly, monthly and yearly financial activities and opportunities to maximize UACC shared goals.
  • Develop and implement SOPs.
  • Manage day-to-day financial and accounting activities of UACC CTO finance department. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing and all accounting transactions for CTO accounts.
  • Responsible for over 425 accounts, a portfolio of over $10M.
  • Develop and implement policy, procedures and internal controls, ensuring procedures are based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), documentation, and efficient handling.
  • Work collaboratively with UACC & Administrative leaders, PIs, and UACC staff to provide and communicate processes, procedures, issues and concerns.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly meetings with finance staff.
  • Undertake and project manage tasks requiring review or re-organization to establish efficient and accurate results.
  • Provide leadership, organize accounting processes and staff responsibilities.
  • Manage UACC CTO resources.
  • Make recommendations to leadership on matters affecting financial implications.
  • Inventory CTO IT capital hardware equipment and established yearly purchase process considering budget and staffing limitations.
  • Reconcile over 150+ trial accounts.
  • Manage, guide, train and lead finance team staff and assign responsibilities. Coach staff to enhance skillset and expertise.
  • Provide training and problem solve questions regarding UA hardware and software programs, such as UAccess, Oncore, Microsoft, Box, etc.
  • Train staff on finance related to clinical trials, programs, procedures, processes and strategies – outlining expectations to improve the overall operation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Advanced, comprehensive knowledge and understanding of clinical trial processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, managerial and communication skills. Ability to attend financial, division and university meetings to remain current with university financial, HR and sponsored project trends and practices, communicating information to appropriate staff within the CTO.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, fiscal management, budgeting and business intelligence.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Ability to preserve confidential financial matters and manage confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to organize, handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Advanced software user skills – Uaccess (Financial & Analytical Reporting, Report Writing), CTMS system (Oncore), Microsoft programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), UA system programs (IRBe, Sponsored Projects research programs), Effort Reporting, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of clinical trial and grant processes.
  • Ability to work successfully with deadlines and adapt to change.
  • Ability to be creative, supportive and problem-solve, providing potential solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of related work experience, including managerial experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with UA financial systems.
  • Experience conducting and guiding complex projects and/or programs.
