Job summary

California State University - Maritime Academy is seeking a Financial Aid Assistant at the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA. You will be the first point of contact for students and families via phone, in person, and email, handling document intake and reviews to ensure accurate financial aid awards and disbursements.

You will work under the Director of Financial Aid and collaborate with admissions, academic records, and student accounts to support eligibility determinations and timely aid

Job Summary

This position is located at the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, California. Under the general direction of the Director of Financial Aid at the Cal Poly Solano Campus, this position serves as the initial contact via phone, in-person and via email correspondence for current and prospective students and their families as well as general public inquires; does document in-take; and completes necessary reviews of financial aid files to ensure accuracy of awards and disbursement of financial aid.

Department Summary

The Financial Aid Office is responsible for the determination of eligibility for and awarding of federal, state, institutional and private grants, scholarships, and work and loan programs in excess of $150M annually to over 13,000 eligible students. The office is responsible for adhering to the regulatory requirements as outlined in federal and state regulations as well as donor and institutional policies and for assuring compliance by the University. The Financial Aid Office serves the University by assisting students in obtaining financial aid and scholarships to attend Cal Poly Maritime Academy and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The Office’s primary function is to provide appropriate financial aid based on federal and state parameters and in keeping with CSU and Cal Poly institutional policies.

Key Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management, research and interviewing techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior.
• General knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire, working knowledge of federal Title IV, state, and institutional financial aid regulations, programs, and eligibility requirements.
• General knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire, knowledge of the objectives, organization, and procedures of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to overall campus operations, including how admissions, academic records, and student accounts interface with financial aid.
• Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Ability to interpret and apply program rules, regulations, and procedures to individual student circumstances, and to explain the basis for eligibility determinations to students and parents.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $54,000 - $62,000 Per Year

Classification Range: $53,784 - $76,104 Per Year

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
