Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s is hiring a Financial Advocates professional at the Burnet Campus for a full-time, 40-hour work week. The role emphasizes effective communication, acting as the liaison between families, Revenue Cycle, and division leaders, and supporting billing and documentation using the Epic system to resolve issues and ensure accurate processing.

  • Billing - understand Epic billing, prepare and forward patient documentation, review and resolve billing concerns.
  • Resource Coordination - coordinate funding options and government/non-government programs to reduce barriers to care.
  • Revenue Integrity & Risk Management - follow workflows to ensure accuracy and compliance; escalate discrepancies.

Expected Starting Pay Range $20.57 - $25.72

Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on‑call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.

Job Responsibilities
  • Communication - Effectively demonstrate communication skills (verbal and written) related to conveying relevant information. Develop and maintain efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program. Openly communicate across many departments regarding financial, patient care, physical and/or material resources. Keep key leadership, administrative staff and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner. Prioritize multiple requests for information.
  • Liaison - Act as liaison between the family, Revenue Cycle, and division leaders.
  • Billing - Understanding and utilization of the Epic billing system. Prepares and forwards patient documentation to appropriate third-party payers. Ability to review, explain, and resolve billing concerns.
  • Resource Coordination - Serves as a resource to patients and families by coordinating funding options, government and non-government programs, and financial assistance to reduce barriers to care. May have specialized areas of responsibility (e.g. government & non-government billing, appeal processing, review & approval of refunds, etc.).
  • Revenue Integrity & Risk Management - Follows established workflows and checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance in all account activities. Escalates discrepancies or payer issues promptly to senior staff for resolution. Operates under close supervision while demonstrating attention to detail and commitment to protecting revenue through timely and accurate processing.

Performs routine tasks, follows workflows, resolves straightforward issues, and escalates complex situations. Focus is on learning about the resources available and submitting basic applications for Medicaid, Financial Assistance and Title V funding.

Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
