Job summary

Athens-Clarke County is seeking a Financial Support Specialist I to perform accounts payable, cash receipts, and related financial duties. The role requires an associate degree and at least one year of relevant experience, with strong numerical and communication skills.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with some holidays possible. The position supports compliance with local ordinances and government accounting practices within the Finance Department.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year experience in at least two of: tax revenue accounting, licensing, cash receipting, accounts payable, finance.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and government accounting principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable transactions and vendor payments.
  • Receive and process cash receipts; balance daily postings to the general ledger.
  • Prepare deposits and balance cash drawers; post to financial systems.
  • Respond to inquiries from businesses, citizens, vendors, and user departments.
  • Maintain department records and documentation; assist with delinquent business tax filings.
