Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Finance Manager in the United States to join the R&D FP&A organization, leading planning, forecasting, budgeting, and close processes. You will partner with Development and Oncology Development/Precision Medicines leadership to deliver actionable financial insights and drive strategic investments.

You will ensure strong financial controls, collaborate across Finance and R&D, and guide senior leaders with accurate reporting while identifying efficiencies and automation

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of corporate finance experience with FP&A or accounting roles.
  • Relevant experience in financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting within a matrixed organization
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a solid understanding of finance and accounting principles
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex financial data and translate insights for non-finance partners
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience communicating to senior leadership
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions and levels
  • Ability to think strategically while maintaining attention to detail and execution quality
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a complex, cross-functional matrix environment
  • Proficiency in financial systems and experience working with AI/Automation tools, including SAP, Hyperion planning and reporting systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint), ChatGPT, Alteryx
  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning and analysis for headcount and operating expenses.
  • Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making, capital investments, and technology and workforce planning and execution.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies, partnering with stakeholders to drive implementation.
  • Serve as a key finance partner to the Development and Oncology Development/Precision Medicines leadership, providing ongoing financial guidance and decision support.
  • Own and support key aspects of the accounting close process, including variance analysis, management reporting, and presentation of results and recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and GAAP requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on corporate financial policies and proper accounting treatment of expenses.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance and R&D teams to support ad hoc analyses and special projects.
  • Identify automation and process improvement opportunities within the financial process and lead their implementation

Finance Manager

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will play a key role within the R&D Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) organization. This position reports to the Director of Development, Global Development Operations and Oncology Development/Precision Medicines organizations and serves as a strategic finance partner in supporting these organizations.

The Finance Manager is responsible for financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, analysis, and accounting close activities for Development and Oncology Development/Precision Medicines organizations. The role works collaboratively with R&D leaders and cross-functional partners across Finance to provide financial insight, ensure appropriate financial controls, and support effective decision-making.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Lead financial planning and analysis for headcount and operating expenses, including the quarterly forecast, annual budget, long-range plan, and quarterly close processes.
  • Provide actionable financial insights to support strategic decision-making, capital investments, and technology and workforce planning and execution.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree OR

Master’s degree AND 2 years of Finance experience OR

Bachelor’s degree AND 4 years of Finance experience OR

Associate’s degree AND 8 years of Finance experience OR

High school diploma / GED AND 10 years of Finance experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of corporate finance experience, including progressive responsibility in FP&A and/or accounting roles

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
