Job summary

Subsurface Energy Resources is seeking a Finance Manager in Mojave, CA to oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, bank reconciliations, and tax filings, and to lead FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will develop financial models, monitor KPIs, prepare reports for senior management, and manage the finance staff while collaborating with operations, product, and risk teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • 3–5 years financial managerial experience.
  • Experience leading finance staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
  • Oversee AR, AP, and payroll processing.
  • Perform bank reconciliations across the entity.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
  • Prepare sales and use tax filings.
  • Develop financial models and KPIs; support audits and controls.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll processing, Bank Reconciliations, preparation of Corporate and Sales and Use Tax filings, and other finance tasks as and when required. The Finance Manager will also be responsible for leading financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial controls for the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL DUTIES
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes
  • Review and Oversee Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Functions
  • Perform Bank Reconciliations across the entity
  • Review Payroll and process entries
  • Prepare sales and use tax filings
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results
  • Perform budget-to-actual, forecast-to-actual, and year-over-year variance analysis
  • Develop financial models for project and overhead analysis
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, margins, profitability, cash flow, and key performance indicators.
  • Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management.
  • Close out of month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain appropriate financial controls and support compliance with company policies and applicable requirements
  • Support internal and external audits and financial information requests
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, controls, and automation
  • Provide financial analysis supporting strategic and operational initiatives
  • Manage and develop finance staff, where applicable
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Operations, Product, Technology, Risk, Compliance, Sales, and other business functions
  • Perform other finance-related duties and special projects as assigned
HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Subsurface Energy Resources
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department
RELEVANT COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Accounting ERP systems (JD Edwards beneficial, but not required)
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Honors degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years financial managerial experience, managing finance and operational staff
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and management reporting
  • Experience managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and other finance processes
  • Sales and Use tax filings experience
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and financial performance metrics.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with financial reporting, ERP, or business intelligence systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to senior management and non-finance stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Deadline driven
