The Finance & Grants Analyst provides specialized finance and grants management support to the California business unit. This role contributes across core areas including financial analysis and reporting, financial management, accounting, auditing, and public grants administration. The position applies strong technical expertise to manage financial and accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies, procedures, and best practices. They partner closely with program teams and staff at all levels, providing guidance, insight, and support to help advance conservation outcomes. This role serves as a key resource for complex financial and grants-related questions, applying sound judgment and deep knowledge to resolve issues and ensure accurate, compliant financial management.

The successful candidate for this role must reside in California and can work from one of our office locations or a home office.

What You’ll Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and 4 years of related experience (or equivalent combination).
  • Experience with financial analysis tools, including spreadsheets, general ledger reporting, and financial management systems.
  • Experience with grant accounting and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, and standard grant and contract requirements.
  • Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
  • Experience with government regulations related to grants and contracts.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Advanced experience analyzing and interpreting financial data; strong Excel skills, including PowerQuery (Power BI a plus).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working effectively in a remote or distributed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and act as a trusted finance partner to program staff.
  • Multilingual abilities and/or cross-cultural experience a plus.
Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $75,200 – $106,200. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment. Within our larger range, here are narrower ranges based upon a few common geographical locations: Chico, Mendocino, Three Rivers: $75,200 -$88,400; Sacramento, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Ventura: $82,700 - $97,200; Los Angeles County, San Francisco Bay Area: $90,300 - $106,200
