POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance Director serves Centerpoint Church by coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Finance and Human Resources functions. This individual helps ensure the church’s financial and personnel systems operate with integrity, efficiency, and alignment with the mission and values of Centerpoint.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business
- At least 3 years of accounting or finance experience, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Experience administering payroll, including tax reporting, employee deductions, benefits, and year-end payroll processes
- Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze and organize complex financial data
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and follow-through
- Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential financial, personnel, compensation, and donor information
- Demonstrated commitment to integrity, accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA designation, accounting certification, or advanced degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Experience working in nonprofit or church accounting with knowledge of fund accounting including designated contributions
- Familiarity with church-specific financial and payroll matters, including clergy compensation, housing allowances, charitable contribution reporting, and other church-related tax considerations.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, RAMP, BambooHR, and/or online giving and payment-processing platforms
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (with % emphasis for each):
Accounting & Bookkeeping - 30-35%
- Oversee all bookkeeping functions, including maintaining the general ledger, balance sheet, and chart of accounts using our accounting software (QuickBooks) and credit card software (RAMP).
- Manage the full month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure accurate processing of all financial transactions, including deposits, accounts payable/receivable, check requests, and wire transfers.
- Supervise processes to confirm the timely collection of W-9 forms and preparation of 1099s.
- If necessary, advise on and remit all required sales tax payments (e.g., bookstore and merchandise sales).
Financial Analysis & Reporting - 15-20%
- Prepare and present accurate monthly and annual financial statements to church leadership.
- Attend Executive Team and Board meetings to provide financial updates and address financial matters, as requested.
- Analyze financial data, giving trends, cash flow, and budget performance to support forecasting and strategic decision-making.
- Provide budget reporting and financial guidance to ministry leaders, including support with expense coding and budget management.
- Prepare monthly congregational financial snapshots and annual donor giving statements.
Financial Reconciliation - 10-15%
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, online giving transactions, designated funds, and other financial accounts accurately and on schedule.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external financial reviews, coordinating documentation and communication with relevant stakeholders.
Financial Leadership & Policy - 10-15%
- Co-lead the annual budget process, building new annual budgets and monitoring spending.
- Develop and implement financial policies and best practices to ensure compliance and fiscal integrity.
- Take on other financial duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Pastor.
Human Resources & Payroll Administration - 20-25%
- Oversee the effective use of our HR software (Bamboo HR).
- Manage the full biweekly payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely calculation and payment of wages, housing allowances, benefits deductions, reimbursements, and applicable taxes.
- Coordinate payroll compliance and reporting, including quarterly and year-end filings, W-2 preparation, and reconciliation of payroll data with the general ledger.
- Maintain accurate and compliant personnel files and employment records in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements.
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding procedures.
- Maintain and administer HR policies, procedures, and required government reporting related to payroll, employment, and benefits.
- Serve as a primary resource for staff regarding payroll, benefits, HR processes, and employment-related questions.
- Coordinate employee benefit administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits, in partnership with the Executive Pastor and outside vendors.
