Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with Excel spreadsheets and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports
  • Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff
  • Experience developing budgets, performing high-level financial analysis, and partnering with leadership
  • Experience acting as a consultant/advisor to senior executives
  • Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting
  • Experience with federal grants, government regulations, contracts, and restricted funding sources
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Workday or similar ERP systems
  • MBA, CPA, CIA, or other relevant professional certifications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, reporting, analysis, internal controls, and year-end activities
  • Deliver financial reporting, complex analysis, campaign development and support, scenario modeling, and recommendations
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and develop recommendations to strengthen performance and optimize resource allocation
  • Coordinate finance services across the assigned pod
  • Supervise, coach, and develop finance staff across the pod
  • Participate in leadership team meetings and other forums
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and stewardship of financial resources
  • Partner with philanthropy, operations, and other teams on grants, contracts, campaigns, and strategic projects
  • Support state leadership and governance bodies
  • Oversee financial aspects of contracts and agreements
  • Travel up to 15%

Job description

  • Serve as senior finance leader for Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia within a finance pod
  • Provide financial leadership and oversight across the assigned states while managing the primary business unit
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, reporting, analysis, internal controls, and fiscal year-end activities
  • Deliver financial reporting, complex analysis, campaign development and support, scenario modeling, and recommendations
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and develop recommendations to strengthen financial performance and optimize resource allocation
  • Coordinate finance services across the assigned pod
  • Supervise, coach, and develop finance staff across the pod
  • Participate in leadership team meetings, staff meetings, retreats, and other forums
  • Ensure stewardship of financial resources, policy compliance, donor requirements, regulatory standards, and GAAP compliance
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data, processes, and controls
  • Partner with philanthropy, conservation, operations, leadership, and other teams on fundraising initiatives, grants, contracts, campaigns, and strategic projects
  • Support state leadership, Boards of Trustees, Finance Committees, and other stakeholder groups
  • Oversee financial aspects of contracts, agreements, and business transactions
  • Partner with the Division Finance Director on division-wide strategies, processes, controls, consistency, and continuous improvement
  • Build trusted partnerships and foster collaboration, accountability, and shared ownership of financial outcomes
  • Travel up to 15%, including day and overnight trips
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with computer and information management systems, Excel spreadsheets and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and/or financial reports
  • Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff
  • Experience developing budgets, performing high-level financial analysis, recommending actions, and providing partnership to leadership
  • Experience acting as a consultant/advisor to senior executives
  • Experience with accounting principles, practices and regulations
  • Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles, practices and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting
  • Experience developing, directing and implementing multiple projects
  • Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable
  • Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and motivating finance professionals
  • Experience leading financial services and initiatives across multiple organizational units, business areas, or stakeholder groups
  • Ability to serve as a strategic finance partner, build trusted relationships, influence decision-making, and navigate competing priorities
  • Advanced experience in financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and analysis
  • Experience analyzing complex financial information, identifying risks and opportunities, developing solutions, and supporting strategic decision-making
  • Experience evaluating and strengthening financial processes, internal controls, and management practices
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP, financial management principles, and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Experience working with federal grants, government regulations, contracts, and other restricted funding sources
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems, including Workday or similar ERP systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary, or geographically dispersed organization
  • Experience working with U.S. Federal government circulars (OMB Circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133) and state and local regulations
  • Valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program
  • Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement and possible motor vehicle record review
  • MBA, CPA, CIA, or other relevant professional certifications preferred
