Job summary

Phillips, Inc. is seeking a skilled welder to layout, fit, and weld fabricated components and repair heavy equipment attachments. The role requires reading drawings, applying welding procedures, and using torches, gauges, and measuring tools.

Travel is frequent to job sites across the region. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an apprenticeship, welding certifications are a plus, and the stamina to work in demanding environments with PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts using straightedges, calipers, and rulers.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Clamp, tack-weld, and assemble parts to required configurations.
  • Ignite torches and operate welding equipment per specifications.
  • Inspect work for defects and ensure conformance to drawings.

Job description

Wages:

$135 - 250 Daily Per Diem (dependent on job location)

Summary:

Lay out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components. Repair heavy equipment attachments such as buckets, dozer blades, moldboard, haul truck beds etc.

Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
  • Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, cast iron, and other alloys
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
  • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals
  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
  • Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained
Supervisory Responsibilities: None Basic Functional Job Requirements:

Workers should be able to:

  • Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Look at flat drawings, pictures, and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width, and depth
  • Completion of apprenticeship program and certification at one or more levels may be required.
  • The ability to keep the hand and arm steady while making an arm movement or while holding the arm and hand in one position
  • The ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand, a hand together with its arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
  • The ability o use one's abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing
  • The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue
Physical Work Environment:
  • Work in dusty or dirty surroundings
  • May be exposed to/ required to handle hazardous material such as diesel fuel and similar petroleum products with PPE provided to minimize exposure
  • May be required to work at night
  • May be exposed to extreme heat and cold environments of a limited basis
  • May be exposed to high altitude (12,000 ft plus)
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational attainments preferred
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Welding certifications are a plus
