Job summary

Children's Board is seeking an Utilities Maintenance Operator to maintain, operate, and construct underground utility piping in field conditions for the Public Utilities Department. The role requires experience with hand tools and underground utility work, plus the ability to work outdoors in a subtropical climate and lift up to 50 pounds.

Candidates should have a Florida CDL with combination, air brakes, and tanker endorsements within one year of hire and be prepared for overtime, rotating

Qualifications

  • Experience operating hand tools and various equipment commonly used in underground utility work.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, underground utilities/construction and/or water/wastewater distribution experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a subtropical climate, withstand adverse weather and high noise levels.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders up to 35 feet, and work in confined spaces and manholes.
  • Must possess a valid Class A or A‑Restricted CDL with combination, air brakes, and tanker endorsements within one year from date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs all phases of water, reclaim, and wastewater systems.
  • Locates and marks underground utilities; helps set up well‑point systems for de‑watering construction sites.
  • Responds to emergencies; overtime, rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
