Job summary

Dallas Trailer Repair Co. in Pflugerville/Austin area is seeking a Field Trailer Systems Mechanic to service customer sites by diagnosing electrical issues, replacing parts, and performing preventive maintenance on semi-trailers.

You will operate a mobile service vehicle, reference OEM manuals, order parts with approval, and document each step while maintaining a clean, safe workspace. A valid driver’s license and 1–2 years of mechanical experience are required; ASE is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of mechanical experience (or equivalent). ASE certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Own tools and PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection).
  • Ability to read and write English to follow laws and document diagnostics and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a mobile service vehicle to maintain, diagnose, and repair semi-trailers and related equipment.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments with attention to detail.
  • Perform PM inspections and OEM repairs, order parts with approval, and document each step.

Field Trailer Systems MechanicLocation: Pflugerville / Austin, TXCompany: Dallas Trailer Repair Co. (Apply on Indeed or at www.dallastrailer.com/careers/)A day in this roleYou’ll start your day by pre-tripping your service truck, confirming parts on hand, and heading to customer sites around the Austin area. One stop may involve diagnosing an electrical issue; the next, replacing air system components or performing a preventive maintenance inspection. You’ll reference repair manuals, follow checklists, order needed parts with approval, and document each step you take—keeping your mobile workspace organized, safe, and ready for what’s next.What you’ll take onOperate a mobile service vehicle to maintain, diagnose, and repair semi-trailers and related equipment.Use hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments (e.g., calipers) with strong attention to detail.Perform PM inspections and company-required inspections accurately and on time.Troubleshoot basic electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Read, follow, and execute procedures from OEM and company repair manuals.Install and replace new or reconditioned parts; test equipment for proper operation.Operate and maintain power equipment safely and effectively.Order parts with prior approval; complete all assigned paperwork thoroughly.Assist fellow maintenance team members when needed and support team objectives.Keep a clean, organized work area; regularly clean tools/equipment and assist with shop housekeeping (sweeping and trash removal).Follow all safety rules and apply sound judgment on every task.Perform other duties as assigned.What you bringValid driver’s license and a clear MVR in line with company Driver Fleet Policy.Insurability under DTR’s insurance requirements (driving record and age criteria).Ability to read and write English to follow local, state, and federal driving laws/signage and to document diagnostics and repairs.1–2 years of mechanical experience (or equivalent).ASE certifications are a plus but not required.Proven mechanical aptitude and solid basic math skills.Own tools and required PPE: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection.Compliance requirement (verbatim): Must pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test, background check (10-year), and drug/medical physical exam.Physical capabilitiesHeavy work: exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and crawling.Manual dexterity for grasping, typing, and operating tools.Clear speech, hearing, and vision for detailed inspection and safe tool/machinery/vehicle operation.Work environmentPrimarily shop-based work, indoors and outdoors, with potential exposure to:Non-climate-controlled conditions and hot/cold temperature swingsDirt, dust, soot, fumes, and airborne particlesMoving mechanical parts and electrical equipmentChemicals and limited ventilationHigh places, confined spaces, and loud noiseProper PPE and strict adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.Compensation & benefitsFlat rate: $28–$32 per hour (based on experience and location)Comprehensive benefits package:Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance401(k) with company matchPaid Time Off and Holiday PayTraining & Development ProgramMonthly Productivity/Bonus Incentive Program(s)Technical strengths we valuePneumaticsVehicle electronics and computer controlsBrake and suspension systemsPreventive maintenance and inspectionsField service readinessVehicle and fleet weldingHydraulic systems and componentsNote: This description outlines key responsibilities and requirements but isn’t exhaustive.
