Field Technician, Water Main & Lead Line Services

Duke's is now looking for a new Field Technician to join our Direction Drilling team based out of Livonia, MI! Come learn about the underground infrastructure industry and get paid to do meaningful work.

What You Will Do:

As the Field Technician for our Directional Drilling Crew, you will specialize in the installation, maintenance, and replacement of water mains and lead service lines, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of water to residential and commercial properties, and other activities related to directional drilling services.

You will be responsible for tapping water mains, replacing lead lines, setting up and assisting with directional drilling work, properly maintaining equipment, back filling holes, site restoration, and assisting with traffic control needs. You will also be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and effective performance of all work in accordance with company-wide policies and procedures. You will:

  • Perform installation and replacement of water mains and lead service lines according to established standards and regulations
  • Conduct regular maintenance and repair of water distribution systems to prevent leaks and ensure optimal performance
  • Inspect water mains and lead service lines for signs of wear, damage, or contamination, and take appropriate corrective actions
  • Assist drilling operators as needed
  • Operate all equipment in a safe manner; maintain all working equipment to ensure they are in good operating condition
  • Mobilize equipment to the site and operate the equipment in a safe manner; haul and tow equipment to and from job site (i.e., drive a 2500 while pulling various sized trailers, safety equipment, and spoils)
  • Perform locates when/if needed
  • Back fill holes and perform site restoration (topsoil, seeding)
  • Assist in tracking daily production and reporting of completed work
  • Assist with traffic control
  • Travel to job sites in and out of town as needed
  • Perform other related work as required and directed

  • Will abide by all safety procedures and policies, including wearing required PPE for your safety
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have a valid driver's license with a clean MVR record; chauffer's license is preferred, or must be willing and able to attain one within 60 days of employment.
  • Are willing to undergo a background and MVR check, drug screen and DOT physical
  • Have six months of experience performing installation, maintenance, and replacement of water mains and lead service lines
  • Enjoy working outside in all weather conditions
  • Are able to work overtime as needed
  • Are able to drive a 2500 while pulling various sized trailers, safety equipment, and spoils, required
  • Have solid computer skills (i.e., use of computer tablets, uploading and downloading files)
  • Are able to lift up to 50lbs+ continuously throughout the day
  • Are able to work in confined spaces, wear and use confined space entry restraints, and enter structures with 24” internal diameter openings or larger continuously throughout the day if needed
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and like working as part of a team
  • Able and willing to travel out of town as needed for work. The ability to travel overnight is not required, but rather on a volunteer basis (additional benefits are provided for overnight travel).

Additional information:

  • Hours are Monday – Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (hours vary depending on project)
  • There will be additional hours based upon job needs
  • May be required to report to multiple different shop locations based on project needs
