Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Field Technician III to lead field crews, perform advanced testing and maintenance of substation equipment, and support commissioning activities across North America. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Electrical/Electronic technology or military experience, 5+ years in the field, NETA III certification, and strong safety discipline.

Qualifications

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field testing, inspection, and maintenance of high, medium, and low voltage equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and control systems using schematics and diagrams.
  • Coordinate daily field activities with engineers, project managers, and crews.
  • Mentor and train junior technicians, reinforcing safety and best practices.
  • Review field documentation and test reports for accuracy.

Position Overview

The Field Technician III serves as an experienced field resource responsible for leading crews, executing advanced testing and maintenance, and troubleshooting complex substation equipment and systems. This role provides technical leadership, ensures safety compliance, and supports engineers and project teams during commissioning and critical field operations.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and reinforce all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring proper PPE usage and safe work practices across the team.
  • Lead job site safety briefings, identify hazards, and implement mitigation measures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, holding team members accountable and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead field execution of testing, inspection, and maintenance of high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment.
  • Perform advanced testing and diagnostics on circuit breakers, transformers, instrument transformers, grounding systems, battery systems, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical expertise.
  • Direct repair, replacement, and maintenance activities to ensure proper restoration of equipment functionality.
  • Support installation and commissioning activities, including leading functional testing and system verification.
  • Interpret test results and recognize abnormal conditions, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of field documentation, including test reports, maintenance logs, and discrepancy tracking.
  • Coordinate daily field activities with engineers, project managers, and other crews to ensure efficient execution.
  • Mentor and train junior technicians, providing technical guidance and reinforcing best practices.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical /Electronic technology, or Military experience preferred
  • 5+ Year s Relevant Industry Experience
  • NETA I I I Certifi ed
  • Industry Certification Programs preferred - e.g. Infrared, Corona, Oil Analysis, Manufacturers, etc.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
