Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Field Technician II in Fort Myers, FL to perform testing and inspection services for soil, asphalt, concrete, and masonry on active construction sites. This hands-on role requires outdoor work, problem-solving, and teamwork to deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities include daily reports, equipment handling, interpreting site drawings, and performing soil and concrete tests. The position may involve overtime and occasional overnight travel.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; associates degree in engineering or science.
0-2+ years of related experience.
ICC certification in Construction Materials Testing; Required: ACI, Asphalt and Nuclear Density Gauge Certification; OSHA 10; OSHA 40 if applicable.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Demonstrate general computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Ability to read plans and specifications; knowledge of industry practices and materials for construction.

Responsibilities

Complete daily reports and testing documents completely and timely.
Transport, handle and maintain equipment and supplies responsibly and effectively.
Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details.
Assist with asphalt or concrete coring.
Become proficient in soil and rock classification systems.
Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients both verbally and in writing.
Work independently with supervision.
Comply with internal and client Health & Safety and testing policies if applicable.
Ability to work weekend, evening, and overtime work based on project needs; overnight travel may occasionally be required with this position.
Test concrete for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and fabricate concrete cylinders.
Test engineered fill using field density methods or familiar with Construction Material Testing.
Perform soil moisture‑density tests and oversized aggregate corrections.
Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details or familiar with Geotechnical Engineering.
Technical observation of test borings, test pits and perform field permeability tests.

Ability to learn and apply technical skills and knowledge.

Ability to read plans and specifications and knowledge of industry practices and materials for construction.

Ability to use technology such as laptop, tablet & smart phone.

Ability to prioritize tasks and overall workload.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to effectively work as part of a team (i.e. collaborate, contribute, respect others).

Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
