Lumen Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Field Technician I to support and maintain our fiber network and customer infrastructure in the DeKalb, IL area.

You will install, test, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunications equipment while ensuring service reliability and customer satisfaction. The role requires hands-on problem solving, the ability to work independently, and willingness to participate in on-call rotations across assigned territories.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
• Ability to learn corporate databases and use Microsoft Windows and Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, maintain, and repair telecommunications equipment and fiber infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot service-impacting issues and restore customer services.
• Support customer installations, service turn-ups, maintenance, and repair work.
• Maintain ILA sites and network infrastructure across service territories.
• Respond to incidents and on-call demands in a timely manner.
• Complete work orders and document system updates accurately.

Serving the greater Dekalb, IL market.The Main ResponsibilitiesInstall, test, maintain, and repair telecommunications equipment and fiber infrastructureTroubleshoot service-impacting issues and perform corrective actions to restore customer servicesSupport customer installations, service turn-ups, maintenance activities, and repair workMaintain and support ILA sites and network infrastructure throughout assigned service territoriesRespond to service-affecting incidents and urgent customer requirements in a timely mannerComplete work orders, documentation, and system updates accurately and efficientlySafely operate company vehicles, tools, and field equipment while following established safety guidelinesParticipate in scheduled on-call rotations and travel throughout assigned territories to support network operations and customer needsWhat We Look For in a CandidateRequired:High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.Entry-level technician with experience and/or knowledge of at least one of the four major technician disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols), and Outside Plant (Fiber locating, OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.).Have knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.Must maintain site security and cleanliness.Must have PC skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.Must possess the ability to quickly learn corporate databases.On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime are required as dictated by the business.A valid driver’s licenseSit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift 50 lbs.; works in all weather conditionsPreferred Qualifications:Experience in telecommunications or fiber optic environmentsExperience with network installation, maintenance, or troubleshootingField service, cable, or broadband installation experienceConstruction trade experienceElectrical or low-voltage systems experienceTechnical repair or maintenance experienceDemonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skillsAbility to quickly learn new technologies and processesCompensationThis information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location.
