Job summary

InTEC of San Antonio seeks motivated applicants to sample, test, and inspect construction materials in the field. The role includes sidewalks, soils, concrete, and steel work, with travel within ~100 miles of the home office and overtime when required.

Applicants should be physically capable of lifting 50–100 lb samples and possess a High School Diploma or equivalent; training will be provided. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in construction sampling/testing is a plus but not required.
• Ability to lift 50–100 lb soil samples.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Willing to travel locally (within ~100 miles) and work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document field activities for construction projects.
• Sample, test, and inspect soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and steel placement.
• Operate field screening equipment and record readings.
• Read maps, follow directions, and interpret construction plans.
• Interact with contractors, technicians, and project managers daily.

Job description:

Positive and motivated applicants will be responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting construction materials in the field. Duties include compaction testing, pier monitoring, preparing concrete cylinders, etc. 40 hours per week, plus overtime and occasional Saturdays.

Job primarily consists of:

• Observing and documenting field activities
• Sampling, testing, and inspecting soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel placement
• Using field screening equipment and documenting readings
• Reading maps, following directions and interpreting construction plans
• Interacting and communicating daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers
• Ability to work outside in the vicinity of large construction equipment
• Ability to utilize hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels and picks
• Presents a professional appearance
• Ability to drive company vehicle, manage and complete all assigned jobs, efficiently and on time

Must have physical capability to lift and maneuver 50 lb. to 100 lb. soil samples

Applicants must be authorized to work in the US and have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience is a plus but not required - will train.

Intermediate computer experience or more and Basic math skills is a plus

Certifications in concrete, soils, etc. would be a plus

Other Requirements:

• Possession of a valid state of residence driver’s license & clean driving record
• Ability to be insured under all applicable insurance policies and requirements
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and physical
• Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office
• May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet deadlines including overtime and occasional weekends.
• The ability to train to achieve minimum certificates in ACI, NICET, and/or ICC within 6 months of hire

Will provide support to acquire additional certifications:

• ACI Field Grade 1, ACI Aggregates, ACI Concrete Strength.

• ICC General Requirements, Soils, Concrete.
