Job summary

Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Technician in Houston, TX to support our geotechnical practice. The role will involve field sampling, testing, and reporting to assist project teams.

You will drive to sites, operate field equipment, and contribute to site plans and exhibits. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of field inspection and material testing experience, a geology or engineering background, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience with field inspection and material testing for soils and concrete.
• Geology or Engineering degree is a big plus.
• License: Driver’s license in good standing, insured, capable of driving.
• Certifications: EIT, GIT, ACI, ICC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory sampling and testing.
• Observe and test earthwork and concrete construction.
• Drive to and from project sites and transport equipment and samples.
• Operate nuclear density gauge and other field equipment.
• Prepare field inspection reports on laptop.
• Read construction drawings and plot test locations on drawings.
• Assist the project management team with geologic research.

Summary

Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Technician in Houston, TX supporting our geotechnical engineering practice. The ideal candidate for this dynamic and challenging role will be responsible for the following tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory sampling and testing
• Observe and test earthwork and concrete construction
• Drive to and from project sites and transport equipment and samples
• Operate nuclear density gauge and other field equipment
• Sample wet concrete and prepare specimens
• Prepare field inspection reports on laptop
• Read construction drawings and plot test locations on drawings
• Photograph site conditions
• Assist the project management team with geologic research
• Prepare site plans and other report exhibits
• Assist with report and proposal preparation
• Communicate daily with project managers, contractors, and/or client

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience with field inspection and material testing for soils and concrete
• Geology or Engineering degree is a big plus
• EIT, GIT, ACI, ICC certifications preferred
• Driver’s license in good standing, properly insured, capable of driving

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
• Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone
• Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screen
• Requires frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, and pulling regularly throughout the work shift
• Field work includes lifting items up to 40 pounds, pushing barrows, digging with hand tools, etc.
• Laboratory work, including lifting and moving soil samples and lab equipment, sieving soils and aggregate, etc., will be needed from time to time
