AVINA Inc. is seeking a Field Technician / Control Room Operator in Rapid City, SD to manage the safe, reliable operation of our hydrogen production and dispensing facility.

You will monitor PLC/SCADA systems, perform routine inspections, and collaborate with the Plant Manager to maintain process integrity. The role requires a high school diploma, 2–3 years in oil & gas or related industries, and the ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2–3 years in oil & gas, clean energy, chemical refining, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Technical: Familiarity with automated process controls (PLC/SCADA/BOP).
  • Safety: Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout and hazardous materials handling.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control automated Balance of Plant (BOP) and PLC systems.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and logging of pressure, temperature, and leaks.
  • Manage high-pressure hydrogen custody transfers safely for trailers or trucks.
  • Perform first-line troubleshooting and apply LOTO to prepare assets for maintenance.
  • Perform 1st-level repairs and preventive maintenance including calibrations and basic replacements.
  • Provide on-site mechanical intervention during emergencies and isolate leaks.

Role Description

We are seeking a Field Technician / Control Room Operator to manage safe, reliable, and efficient day-to-day operations of our advanced clean hydrogen production and dispensing facility.

What You\'ll Do (Core Responsibilities)
  • System Monitoring & Control: Continually monitor and control the automated Balance of Plant (BOP) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.
  • Facility Inspections: Conduct routine physical facility walk-downs, systematically logging pressure, temperature, and leak-detection data to maintain operational integrity.
  • Custody Transfers: Manage high-pressure hydrogen custody transfers safely, executing secure hookups and disconnections for tube trailers or transport trucks.
  • Safety & Equipment Isolation: Execute first-line troubleshooting and technical equipment isolation utilizing standard Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols to prepare assets for the maintenance team.
  • Maintenance & PMs: Perform 1st-level repairs and preventative maintenance (PMs), including instrument calibrations, piping repairs, and basic non-technical parts replacement.
  • Emergency Intervention: Provide vital on-site mechanical intervention during emergencies, manually overriding localized PLC faults and isolating physical leaks.
What We\'re Looking For (Requirements)
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in oil & gas, clean energy production, chemical refining, or industrial manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, adhering to strict team headcount safety protocols.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with automated process controls (PLC/SCADA/BOP interfaces), high-pressure gas handling, and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
  • Safety Orientation: Strong working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazardous materials handling, and industrial safety regulations.

Reporting to: Plant Manager / Operations Manager

  • Hourly Rate: $37.00 - $49.00 / hour (Dependent on experience and technical certifications)
