Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Field Technician in Upper Marlboro, MD to support hazardous waste cleanup activities and emergency response operations. Responsibilities include remediation work, adhering to safety policies, and handling tasks from confined space entry to spill cleanup.

Qualifications

  • Must pass a Pre-Employment Physical, Drug Screen and Alcohol testing.
  • Pass a Pre-Employment Background Screening.
  • Pass the Company's Auto Insurance Qualifiers.
  • Pass the OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training.
  • Must obtain Transportation Worker (TWIC) clearance within first 45 days of employment.
  • Able to read, write, and understand the English language, and follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform remediation work under supervision related to hazardous waste and materials.
  • Prioritize health and safety by following all policies and safe work practices.
  • Handle tasks such as confined space entry, tank cleaning, oil spill cleanup, drum handling, decontamination, and high-pressure washing.
  • Work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays; on-call for emergencies; travel as needed.
  • Work under adverse conditions (heat and cold) and wear PPE; lift >50 lbs.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that scheduled and Emergency Response Calls are answered in a timely manner Field Technicians are responsible for clean ups, spills, COVID and Hazmat Decon work and other duties delegated by management that are within the scope of work.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform work under the direct guidance of a Supervisor or Foreman involving the remediation of cleanup regarding hazardous waste and materials.
  • Ensures that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
  • Daily work will involve confined space entry such as manholes, tank cleaning, oil spill cleanup, drum handling, decontamination, sweeping and shoveling, high pressure washing and various other remedial activities.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. “On-Call” based on the rotating “On-Call” schedule for Emergency Response. May require out of town travel. Length of travel will be dependent on service center and on-going projects
  • Ability to work under adverse conditions (heat & cold)
  • Physically able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary and lift > 50lbs routinely

  • Preforms other, related tasks as assigned
